Is the PC version any good?

The PC and Mac versions are identical.
There's another Theme Creator here:

but its not for P-series phones... I think the official Sony Ericsson one is the only one for those...

I find manual editing a lot simpler (because of the major differences). Just unzip the .utz file (it's really normal .zip files) and edit the XML and images manually. Then add the modified files back into the theme file and send it to the phone for testing
I've found several things that the Theme Creator does wrong. It misses to theme some stuff that the phone CAN handle, and themes other stuff that I've never seen the phone do.
Just ditch theme creator and use the official UIQ themes (from http://www.uiq.com/uiq_themes.html , the original ones in the phone have some bugs) as a base.

I've been working with official SE Theme Creator for months and I have to say sometimes it behaves differently when used on the phone. Mine is K800i. There are problems with Pop Up, Pop Up Title, More List, Activity Menu, Row Title, and more. However, some tricks can be done to overcome this minor problem..the more you work with this tool, the more expert you will be in creating themes.
I am sure that the official SE Theme Creator is the best.. |

IMO theme creating should be done with a graphical tool like Photoshop or GIMP. SE's theme creator is just an interface to put the parts together as a theme and maybe edit some colour values, but it really isn't necessary for creating themes (it's not a "creator" at all and has too many bugs). The .thm file is just a renamed tar package with pics and an XML-file which can be edited manuallly with a text editor. So once you have an XML-file for your type of phone and the pics you want to use and know how to unpack an create .tar-files, you don't really need the theme creator anymore. |
