K750i camera not working - not ribbon cable possibly though? |

Yes, even I come across problems which I need help with!
I have a K750i which I bought to fix a broken screen. The previous owner had walked into something hard, and cracked the screen, also snapped off the 'volumne up' button off the mainboard (he must have walked into it with some fair force lol!)
When I first got the phone, the camera worked fine, even took a picture no problem. I then took the phone apart to inspect the damage to the volumne button, and the camera now doesn't work at all! I open the slider, the screen goes blank briefly then back to standby. Same thing if I try to open it manually from the menu.
I've just put a new facia on it (a W700i one), and hoped I'd simply not plugged a connector in properly last time. But no, even after carefully re-assembling the phone the camera still won't boot up.
I've been through the service menu and it regognises when I open and close the camera shutter, the flash LEDs work fine, and I can't see any signs of damage on the camera microswitch or ribbon cable itself.
So, what else could be the problem? Could the camera unit itself be faulty? I hope it's not a software problem!

Just tried swapping the mainboard with that of my main, fully working K750i. That also failed to boot the camera up, which would rule out any software problems, looks like it's either a camera unit or ribbon cable problem!
Wonder if I have slightly damaged it or a connector somewhere along the line?

I have had this symptom with both faulty camera modules and also faulty camera switches.
If you install the ignore_camera_latch vkp patch on the K750, then if the problem is with the camera switch then camera should work by holding the camera button or starting it from the memory.
If it doesn't then it's possibly the camera module.

what I might try doing is swapping about the working ribbon and camera unit out of the working K750i (carefully!) and see if I can work out which of the components is the faulty one.
Seems strange though as I can't find any evidence of damage and the camera worked before, I mush have just nicked something when I had it apart the first time.

the camera modules must be handled with care. they can easily be damaged.
