Measuring just a few inches long, the Explay is a laser/LED-based projector that uses less energy and generates less heat. It can be hooked up to a phone, iPod, portable video player and any other source for displaying low resolution images, 320x240, but the company says higher resolutions are coming.

It does need a darkened room and, as you can see from the photos, the image size is not great. But it’s still a lot better than watching something on an tiny phone screen and can be slipped in your pocket when you’re done.

This is exciting stuff. Expect to see a lot more on the nano-projection front in 2007.

Now that a projector like that is out, I'm sure will start incorporating video out sockets on future phones.
