HBH-30 and voice dialing |

I am having some trouble fully using HBH30 with my phone. For some reason I can not record voice commands using the headset. I have registered the unit and ca use it to talk (to both pick up calls and place calls) but only after I press the button on the headset.. So i can not use the magic word and can not use it to record voice commands(even when the headset is on the prompt comes out of the phone and phone's mic is active).
In my bluetooth settings I specified to send sound to headset and bluetooth is on. However the phone does not seem to be in constant communication with the headset- i.e when I press the button on the headset the phone says "Headset is connected..." and goes through a few seconds initalization every time
I have also added a headset to the accessories mentu of a headset profile
Please help me this is really annoying
Eugene
PS I am on R3C001 firmware

I have fw version R2E006 and the same "problems".
As far as I can tell you CAN'T record names through the headset. You have to record them on the handset and you can then use the headset to initiate voice dialing.
The Headset always takes a few seconds to connect to the phone. The BT pairing simply lets the two devices talk, it does not establish a constant connection to the headset.
I don't use Magic Word, but I thought I read somewhere that it's for use with car kits, and doesn't do anything with headsets.
Could be wrong on ALL of that, but I've read several threads on this and nobody has come up with another answer that I have seen.

It is possible to record VoiceCommands with the HBH-30. I did it a few minutes ago. I don't know which phones you guys use, but I have the T39m. First you need to be sure the headset and the phone are paired (asuming you guys already did this).
Now go to the VoiceCommand record menu. Press the button on the headset. The headset will initiate a connection to the phone (but keeps beeping). Now start a record session with the keypads on your phone. As soon as the phone beeps to start the recording, your headset will beep also and you can record the command with your headset.
If the connection between headset and phone is made, you don't need to do that again between several command recordings next to each other. Only if the connection timed out and is lost.

Magic word cannot be use in any bluetooth headset because the phone and bluetooth headset would have to be in constant communication via bluetooth microphone to listen to the magic word. Magic word works fine in a wired earpiece/headset because you do not need to supply power to a transmitter. If magic word were to be implemented into a bluetooth headset, battery life of the headset would be a tiny bit greater than it's advertised talk time. Hope this helps, and I hope I made sense of this all.

Ahh yeah, that makes sense!
I hadn't thought about why it wouldn't work! |

So after reading the suggestion about activating the headset before you begin to record, I thought I would try this on my new BlueSpoon.
I have a T68i running R3E002. This is a T-Mobile phone from Amazon.com.
When I push a button on the BS to connect, I hear the tones, but it immediately disconnects. I then decided to attempt to connect after it began recording. This resulted in a message saying nothing was recorded. Finally I attempted to connect immediately before I clicked yes to begin recording. This results in the T68i locking up. The only way to reset or gain control of the phone again, is to pull the battery. While the phone is frozen, the BS has an active connection, you can hear the microphone is on, but it is also locked up until you have reset the phone. I will be placing a call to SE about this, and I will have to try this out with my friends HBH-30, and a T68i with an older rev of the software.
Any ideas guys? |

I have investigated the problem and even called SE tech support. I have much the same results when I follow SE's instructions. The phone lock's up more often than not (and it does not have a reset button:))
My feeling is it is the version of the firmware I am using R3C001 out of ATT box unlocked.
Does anybody know how long it takes for a firmware upgrade if I send it in?

I have had the same problems with being unable to record voice commands as well as the phone freezing with the microphone on. SE claims it to be a hardware issue because they say no one else has experienced the problem, which clearly is a lie because you guys have. But I have had the same result on 3 AT&T Firmware T68i's.
I gave up, but it would be great if someone comes away with a solution. Sony Ericsson doesnt seem interested in helping. They never call me back. |

I have had the HBH15 and now the HBH30 (the ear pieces broke on the 15 and SE replaced the headset). Anyway, the BT headset is not designed to record the contact voices, due to the connection that is needed. The magic word works well with car kit and wired headset. The BT headset works great for voice calls and voice memos. I have an older T68m from AT&T that has been unlocked, now with T-mobile. The HBH30 works fine with it, but does not show the carry side, battery life, or page features that the HBH15 showed in the accesories menu. I have the R2B firmware.

it's clear that bluetooth voice dial will not be as useful as u think. and all the time it's not working in some noisy place. but it work perfectly inside a car or alone at home.

I've got firmware version R4008 (T39) and this works fine. I also figured out that its not possible to answer a call with a Voicecommand. The T39 doesn't see the HBH-30 as a "real" portable handsfree headset. So this must be the reason you can't use MagicWord and Voiceanswering with the HBH-30.
You can only use these features if the phone is switched to the headset profile. And since the phone doesn't switch to this profile with the HBH-30 you can't use it.

1. You can make the phone swith to headset profile as soon as it detects a HBH-30 (I think you add it to the accessories of that profile, can not remember exactly) or you can put the phone into that profile manualy
2. I managed to record voice commands with my friends T68i with R2E I think it worked just fine
I might send my phone to SE for firmware flash soon
Will keep everyone posted |
