When I insert my new pro duo (which is branded Sony) the phone freezes.
If I press the menu button nothing happens then when I eject the pro duo the menu comes up and works perfectly.
If I put the pro duo in when the phone is locked the screen goes blank.

Thank you in advance

Not sure if your phone supports the bigger card. You better check with SE to verify.

N82(YES), iPhone 3G, Shure es530, Nikon D300, more stuff. No more SE stuff, why am I still here?

its definitly compatible with w850 as I have used mine in one, I;ve never used or owned a w900 so cannot answer for that but from posts here I believe it is compatible

lets stay on topic though, before more people ask abot other models.

I'd agree with tranced that most likely caue is a faulty card but you can send that to Sony for testing (I've done that before) or if you got it from a shop recently, try to take it back for a replacement

I bought a 1 GB for my K750 last year . . . I'm quite confused (then) . . . when everytime I am inserting new FILES (via bt) the fone was going BERSERK but the transfer was OK after . . . but a bit . . . slooooow. So, I tried detecting the card from my fone, and it just can't that made me not to WORRY though, as the fone still functions well and same with the camera . . . when I tried accessing the card (1 GB) from other fones . . . a W800 this time . . . the card can't be detected too . . . so with other fones . . . so I've decided to bring the card where I bought it . .. they try detecting it on their PC . . . and yes, the CARD was undetectable . . . it's a FAULTY one ! Since it was under warranty, they've replaced it with a 2 GB (I upgraded .. . added some cash). From then, the 2 GB worked well . . . can be detected with my K750 too !

Before you update, have you checked the file system on the card, it could be that its formatted in FAT32 or that it's not even formatted at all.

to be 4gb it has to be FAT32 as FAT16 only supports up to 2gb

Thank you for al the good ideas.
I cannot format the card in the phone because it freezes immediately.

Can you tell me how to update the firmware please? What is SEUS and does it make a difference that I am in the UK

SEUS = Sony Ericsson Update Service. it allows you to upgrade your FW online. it comes with the CD of your mobile. it tells you what to do while the process is on.
