your question is a very good one. where are the patches stored, in the FW or EROM? if patches are stored in the FW, of course pathces will be deleted, but if are in the EROM, what happens?

i think that patches are implemented to the FW. look, when you are about to add a patch, you must be aware what FW you have and what FW is the patch for. if you patch your phone with a patch different from your FW, it may cause that your phone work improperly. got it?

Well, it the firmware is important for patching, but then why does FAR ask for confirmation for EROM writing when you apply patch to your phone? It maybe changes the both, the EROM and the FW.

im thinking this: the patch goes directly to the FW, FW is stored in the EROM (Erasable Read Only Memory). so, that's why FAR warns you about the EROM.
im not sure of what i've said
someone enlighten us!!!!!!!!!!

patches enable us to do things that mobiles wont allow us to do. example: you cant start mediaplayer by pressing the play/pause button without having the handsfree plugged in, disable promtps when receiving files, etc, etc

Per definition, at least according to Ericsson / SonyEricsson tradition, a patch is a modification on machine code level of the software that is sent out and will become obsolete when the next version of the software is released. Therefore, I would say that the patch will be removed at a firmware upgrade. Since a patch is so tightly bound to certain addresses of the program code, they are also dependant of a certain firmware verdsion in order to function, and would cause more damage than gain if applied to the wrong software version. |
