EDIT, read posts below for pics/dismantling

My W850 has suddenly gotten a line of dead pixels, they are not stuck they just dont show any picture on one line

I don't think i am going to be able to claim under warranty because i have debranded the phone DOH!

The lcd's themself seem fairly cheap on ebay, has anyone ever dismantled the w850 or changed the screen?

Im tempted to try putting the phone somewhere very warm to cook the electrics a little and see if the lcd comes back to life, its obviously just a dodgy connection somewhere.

Oddly when it first started to do it, i thought it may have been a software bug because when i turned it off, during the shutdown sequence the pixels started working, but then when i turned on it was still ok, but then died again

I got bored of waiting and i just managed to take it apart!

It's not actually that hard at all, i just used a guitar pick and a torx
screwdriver!

Basically slid the guitar pick around the underside of the rim on the screen section and the metal bit pops off.

Then did the same with the plastic section after undoing 2 torx screws

I'll put some photos on here after i have my dinner

1.) Slide pick or similar thin flexible plastic in between the metal panel and the phone front and ease it around gently prying the metal plate up.

It soon pops up on its own, no real force needed!
It seems to be glued down slightly, just slowly ease it and it will come off.

2.) Undo the two torx screws holding on the front fascia, then slide the pick along the gap between the fascia and the body.
It should be obvious where you need to pry it as there are several clips holding it in place.

This was also pretty easy, especailly compared to taking apart a K800i!

When putting this bit back on take note that the bottom of the fascia needs to be clipped on first, you need to slide it up onto the body to make sure the clips re-engage.

And well that's as far as i have gotten so far!

Ive ordered an LCD screen for £25 inc P+P which isnt bad to be honest, cheapest ive seen to have it fitted elsewhere is £60 for screen, £15 to fit!

fitting the w550i LCD is pretty hard, thats when you just get the actual LCD and not the board with the speaker/buttons on it. I assume w850i is similar, it looks it, maybe harder!

If you are just getting the LCD screen and need to remove it from the board then it will take a wee bit longer, much more complicated procedure. GOOD LUCK THOUGH!

I don't think it will be too bad, it looks as if i just have to take off the metal strip at the bottom of the lcd, just like on the k800
then the screen will be free.

I'll find out in the week though!

I have just successfully finished swapping over the LCD in my W850i and i can thankfully say the operation went well with no complications

Basically to go on from the photos above all you need to do is,

The metal clip easily comes off by preying it up/out from the left or right side of th phone, i used the lil penknife

lift the top of the LCD screen.

UNDO the four screws beneath it, this will release the top slider part of the phone.

Then you need to detach the keypad from the main part of the phone.

Do this by GENTLY prying up the bottom section of the keypad, it should be obvious as you can see the connector it is attached to.

The rest was simple .

Only hurdle was i screwed the slide back before re-attaching the keypad section ( i thought i could just press it back on ) but you need pressure from underneath for it to join properly so simply re-attach keypad while the slide is OFF the phone.

Another little tip is, leave the new LCD plastic cover on until the very last minute to save getting greasy marks on the new LCD.

Make sure the top fascia is free of dust! I used a lint free cloth and a can of spray air!

I also used some nut lock on the top slide screws to prevent them coming lose in the future. My slide seems a little more sturdy now to be honest, just as new!

Overall im a happy chappy
