i was making a call and lost tract of it, wasn't really paying attention, i was put on hold, and then i guess the call got disconnected, and gave me the busy signal sound, and then my phone told me "ciphering on" and i tried it again "ciphering off" i use a t68i.... what is ciphering?? first i ever heard of such thing....

Ciphering is used to prevent any third party to eavesdrop your conversation. This is also used for data. |

ciphering is a sonyerisson/ericsson phone feature that scrambles our calls and messages that we have made for additional privacy.
note: it is network dependent, also, you may also experience to see a triangle that will appear on your phone's display with exclamation mark inside if incase your network is not providing such service.  |

What's this bullsh*t?! It is NOT a SE/Ericsson feature!! It must be supported by ALL mobiles! It is optional in networks.
Country legislation allows it or not.

wow..thanx guys, now how do i turn it on or off? it happens to me by itself while i listen to some busy tone.. weird eh? is there something manually i can do to turn it off or on this ciphering thingy?

Anyone knows how to stop T-69i from displaying "CIPHERING SWITCHED OFF" and making "FUNNY" (Pissing) sound when a call is made or received.

the only thing you can do is to visit a servicepoint so they turn off ciphering permanently... there is no other way... |

Cyphering is a GSM standard for ALL digital networks providing the switches used by landline companies that lease them also have the same facility. The 'Cyphering' modules in switches run alongside the 'Buffering' modules, to ensure the encryption is not in anyway compremised and that the quality of the call is at it's maximum when connected.
