Hello all,

I tried searching for my particular problem, but it seems to be unique. Earlier today I was listening to music on my k800 and noticed the volume button wasn't working. I tested it in standby and still it didn't work (didn't display the phone info). So I took the battery out to restart the phone - rather impatient of me, I know, but I was in a rush.

Anyway, the phone never turned back on. Instead I am greeted with a white screen. It stays on the white screen indefinitely. If I press the power button while it's showing the blank screen, it just vibrates a little - that's it. No other buttons work. I have to remove the battery if I want to switch it off.

I have seen a few other problems with the k800i where the red LED focus light will flash, but mine does not. Also, when I connect it to the computer, the computer recognises it, drops it, recognises it, drops it, etc. It's a cyclic pattern. I even tried to update the firmware again (It said I don't need to, but I went ahead). Half way through the update, it just returns back to the first page of the SEUS.. doesn't give me an indication of whether "update failed" or "updated was successful".

I'm leaving the country tomorrow and I need the phone. HELP! Please?

Phone details:
SE k800i from O2
Upgraded to latest Firmware
1GB M2 card inside

Edit: So it's a WSOD (white screen of death)? How is this fixed?

Try pushing the off button for 10 sec to shut the phone down. Then take the batt out again and try again.

Residentevill, I tried holding the off-button for 10+ seconds, but nothing happened.

Will the wotanserver work? This link seems to think it will:
http://seamonkey420.tech-recipes.com/k750i/K800iFix.html

If that doesn't, I guess I'll have to give it back to SE. The service centre won't give it back to me the same day will it?

Yes, I'm afraid so.
It doesn't flash white.. it's a steady white screen. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Try to took the batt out for few hour. Then charge the batt again before trying to turn it on.

I have seen many times my phone flashing white when I unplug USB from the computer. I just leave it for 30 secs and it gets normal by itself. EROM again?

I had this problem with a friends W800i and have managed to fix it using this link (http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2404/sony_ericsson_k800i_white_screen_of_death_wsod_fix) and a bit of 'messing about'. Download the Wotanclient and USB drivers as it says. Here's the instructions, to save you page hopping:

Step 2. Download the latest wotanserver client from their main site. Run the .exe to start the client. Unzip the USB drivers to a folder that you will remember C:USB (for example)

Step 3. Remove your phone's battery and put back in. Then hold down the 2 and 5 buttons on your keypad. Connect the phone to the USB cable. At this stage my laptop (running XP) wanted drivers, point it at the C:USB folder.

Step 4. You might get some prompts to install the flash driver, just click the install automatically options.

Step 5. In Wotanserver, click the start button and hopefully you'll see some info and data shown to the left. Here's what i saw when i fixed my EROM. Notice the part about EROM: starting upgrade.

Step 6. Do as wotanserver says, remove the battery and let the phone sit for a few minutes and then put battery in and SMILE that your phone now works again!!!!!

NOTE, this did not work for me!! I checked all the boxes on the program apart from 'Disable Pay Now'.

The largest of the 'drop down' box fields which starts off by saying N/A needs your attention. I selected Orange (my N/W provider) from here.

Open a new IE window and go here:

http://www.wotanserver.com/en/buy.html

I purchased one credit at 7 Euros which means you will get an E-Mail with a login and password. Enter these details at the bottom part of the Wotanserver program and click 'Check'.

Now click START. The program started downloading data and applying it, after about 10 - 15 minutes it says that it finished. I tried the phone and it only bloody worked!! I am typing this from memory, so I hope I haven't missed anything out! I will be attempting this process again with another phone soon, so I'll update this if I have messed up!

Please note, this forum adds a backslash for some reason, so it should be one backslash after the c: not two.

Use Wotan server at your own risk. Expect the worst and you might prepare yourself for the consequences. Read my sig for more info on why you should avoid Wotan like the plague...

since I can't see my sig showing up here's the link:
DON'T USE WOTAN SERVER E V E R ! ! !

PS - wow! Why did you dig this thread from a year ago to reply??????

Because of the wonder that is GOOGLE. I searched for an answer to a WSOD problem with a K800i and found this thread. I saw fit to update it as the WotaServer program worked for me perfectly. The fact you replied, shows that people still read this! I offer advice on my own experience, take it as you find it. It worked fine for me and my mate is very happy that her phone is living and breathing again. I took the time to sign up to this service and compose my first mail thinking it might help somebody out, I wish I hadn't bothered now. Mate, not sure what your problem is, but if you don't have anything interesting or constructive to add......don't bother!
