Imo the keypad isnt the best, cos the * 0 and # keys are placed way to low, uncomforteable at usage.

Well it sounds kind of ignorant to me that this shocks you or that you even need to get this confirmed because you dad bought it (and do you really think the label is false ). What is the issue with the fact that it is made in China? Get used to it - everything is going to made in China in the near future. If you buy a Nintendo console, Xbox360 and other phones they will most likely be build in China as well.
Even the japaneese doesn't care that their precious production is across the pond so why should you?
P.S. The phone is only assembled in China. As you may know Ericsson is Swedish and Sony is from Japan. SE is a joint company and the phone design is primarely done in Sweden and I would guess the same goes for the software. The don't design or develop anything in China. In other words: SE is doing what most major electronics companies does these days.

indeed, ericsson is responseable for the hw mainly and sells it to se. not sure where the designers are coming from, probably a mixed team from both countries.

most of the big companies prefer to build their plants or factories in china bcoz of low labor cost and government taxes...but it doesn't mean that their products didn't pass their standards and quality control...besides they're using same raw materials regardless of their location...
