K790 File manager issue |

Yesterday i upgraded from my w810i to the K790i
I was not satisfied with the experience.
The reasons are as follows.
In all sony ericsson phones i used the menus could be navigated using the keypad. ie inside the file manager or any other menu item when we press 2 button the second option was automatically selected. this feature allowed me to give the joystick much needed rest.
To my surprise when i did the same in my new k790 i saw that when i press any number (eg 2) a small T9 sort of thing ops up showing ABC and the last menu item ()Other is automatically selected.
This not any extension of the search feature they implemented in the w810 contacts list and i dont understand what they expect us to do with it.
Whatever i tried it always selects the other folder.
Selection by keypad works properly on all other menu items except the file manager which shows me this ABC sort of dump thing and always takes me to other folder.
Another idiotic behaviour was noticed witin most of the file manager sub items. In K790 SE has extended the contact search facility to file manager subfolders like photos, videos, music, games, apps and themes. In here when we type a character for searching the selection goes some where else. whe i type t it goes to b and so on. Occasionally it does go to the correct field in some menu items but 90 % of the time its wrong.
SE has screwed up the whole keypad integration within file manager. I tried updating my firmware to the latest but the issue still remains. I heavily use the keypad for navigation and i hate it when it screws up the whole selection.
Does any of you have the same problem?
How can i bring this to SE's notice.
Any email adress to which i can email them and raise a support request?
The main issue remains what i discussed above but other features missing in K790 that were present in my W810 are:
1. Flash lite support
2. K790 has seperate music player and video player instead of the integrated media player.
3. Missing fourth band (w810 was quad band)
4. Speaker phone volume was very low compared to w810
5. Lack of LED flashlights.
6. Unavailablity of higher capacity M2 cards and their high cost.
Certainly there are many positives to the k790 as well like the camera the display and the excellent and higher speed internet connectivity and browser but they were heavily overshadowed by the unpardonable screwed up file manager. |

Agreed. Although folks say the K790 isn't a smartphone, these things should be part of any modern phone.
The main issue remains what i discussed above but other features missing in K790 that were present in my W810 are:
1. Flash lite support - I'm msytified by it's lack.
2. K790 has seperate music player and video player instead of the integrated media player. - Especially questionable decision since both the W810 and K790 use the same basic SE Operating System.
3. Missing fourth band (w810 was quad band) - I have no clue why they don't make at least one version of their phones as quad-band. They do make several versions of each, but none quad-band. WTF? This alone holds lots of folks back from buying SE. They go with Nokia instead. I almost did.
4. Speaker phone volume was very low compared to w810. - I am satisfied with my phone's speaker volume, but it is a common complaint. Maybe a firmware update will address this.
5. Lack of LED flashlights. - This one is a toss-up. Lots of folks with Blackberries complain about not being able to turn off their flashing LED light.
6. Unavailablity of higher capacity M2 cards and their high cost. - It's a new technology/standard so early adopters will have to pay higher prices now than in a year or so. Then there will be greater availabiltiy and lower prices. I just hope they don't abandon this standard and leave us orphaned.

This is why I kept my W800i when I upgraded. I thought I wouldn't be needing it after a while but it's really helpful in many situations where the K790 can't do anything.
Also, why do you say the K790 has better internet speed than the W810? I thought both supported EDGE.
As to the absence of a fourth band, I can't understand it either. It's just simpler to create a single quad-band model than two tri-band ones. At least this time SE created a model for the Americas with the 850 band. This wasn't the case with the W800/K750. I had to use a Motorola C115 whenever I left the city (or went into my kitchen).

rambo47 : By Led flash ligts i meant the camera flash and not the service lights.
alrodlop35 : Both support edge but the browsing speed on the k790 is better than the w 810. may be due to more ram and better processor.
I heard from no one on my main issue the keyboard shortcuts & search feature in File manager. Please give me your findings on it.

Hi all,
R1GB001 has been released for K790 too.
I successfully updated my K790 to R1GB001 via FOTA from India
Improvements
- Updated Video folder - video thumbnails now play when they are hovered over.
- Highlighted menu item animation is now supported.
Bug fixes
- Bug in search facility in applications folder is now fixed.
- Thick black line flashes on screen at the start and end of video playback when playing video in Vertical mode through the File Manager now fixed.
- Selecting More / Information on the Applications and Games folders no longer returns 0KB used and 0 files.
New Bugs
User Interface
- Video preview can crash the phone if the video is encoded as high quality MP4. Note that video preview cannot be turned off, although you can view the folder as a list to avoid the issue.
- Video preview can introduce a lag if the video is encoded in excessively high quality.
Intermittant / Non-working functionality
- Games and applications installed on memory stick from before the update will not work after the upgrade. Note that games and applications installed into phone memory will still function correctly.
Two of the issues mentioned in this thread have been solved. |

I am unable to FF or Rev videos in k790
I previously owned a k750,
I miss the features such as creating a playlist of videos,
Watching videos in Fullscreen mode (in player)
with no progress bar, "stop" button.
can ne one suggest me a jar application that gives functionality of:
- FF, REV
- Truly fullscreen (240 x 320 pixels) with no nags whatsoever
- Ability to create playlists of videos
???
PS : I have tried KD player, its not fullscreen |
