In retrospect of the recent 'joke' I putting forward an idea for bringing on board an extra moderator(s).

At the moment masseur is the only regular moderator that actively participates in the forum. Tranquil is on infrequently but not often enough to support masseur in such a large forum. The others seem almost non-existent around here, and laffen is obviously not always available to moderate the forum closely.

That means that when masseur is away, due to time differences, business or personal reason, the forum is left largely unmoderated. As we have seen with the 'joke', it has turned into a nasty flame war between some members, and the thread cannot be locked.

It has also given esato a bad reputation in being a reliable news source in the mobile area. Hopefully it is not lasting, but it is comments likes these that do no good for our generally wonderful community.

And it is not only for issues like this. Other areas, such as scammers and spammers are sometimes left unnoticed by our small team of moderators due to them being lost in a large forum or due to them being posted at different time zones, which often lead to the post being left for hours without attention.

I'd like to hear other people's views on this proposal. I'd like to think that this would be of great benefit to Esato.

i would love to be a mod here, to help people out, get things straight and make sure nobody posts twice and the scammers stay way.
i'm an oldie on this forum and i know how things work here.
i can acces the site from home and work 24/7 so that isn't a problem either.

and i would consider it an honor to do this.

I think with a forum this side, and with such loyal regulars, that its in a state of perpetual self moderation anyway, without the need for "official" mods. Everyones really helpful and it's a much more productive and healthy forum than others I've seen.

I agree on the extra moderator ideas. I think it should be persons who are often online and are already known around the forums and show they could cope with such responsability. Perhaps if laffen is not at all convinced, he could give some part time moderator responsabilities. Like someone moderates throught the afternoon (in their time zone) for like 3 hours perhaps, nad people take turns. More ideas I think are welcome, to make laffen decision easier

I dunno, I'm offline for one day while travelling from London to Sydney and you wanna replace me?

just kidding, but no, I think Esato is fine as is. The only draw back is that sometimes things cannot be moderated quite so quickly but Esato surves fine and well IMHO as most members know what is expected of them and they themselves don't want to ruin what we have here, and for me thats great!

btw, its 01.20 here and its still 20 degrees

I would just like to thank you moderators for the time you put in. I know it's all unpaid personel time and it's greatly appreciated, we can all come up with the idea of a forum on a certain topic but when it grows to the size of Esato, then it does become difficult to moderate so once again thankyou very much.
Esato is a reat forum, loads of advice here and even if the 'joke' thread was bad, this site does seem to get a LOT of SE news first which is great.

I agree. At the moment, the site in general is quite untidy, and clearly, a quite a few topics have gone the way of stupidity, arguments, and general bollocks.

Abit of a clean up, and say, two more mod's that are frequently on the site at differing times,would be a massive help to this....the best phone community on the net..

@shaliron

I couldn't agree more! More moderators to make this forum what it used to be, a well trusted information channel and good educational threds.

Let's go back to basic!

p.s.
In some way I would like to hear axxxr's say.
What was your point with th joke? What were you joking about? I don't get it!

@Bobafett
Look here.

Well I just think that more than one moderator is necessary for such a large forum. An extra person can't hurt, and situations such as yesterday could've have been avoided with an earlier lock of the thread.

Whilst I do think that the forum is fairly well self moderated, it would do any harm to let a couple of members become moderators and give them some more power over some circumstances which just cannot be controlled normally.

It is very interesting to point out that our moderator to member ratio is quite high compared to many other forums. I don't want a very high moderator count, but one or two should do a lot of good.
