This is very surprising.

The Sendo Z100 features in the latest CPW catalogue, priced £179 on Vodafone. How can they get that close to launching a product and then drop it? I first saw a picture of the phone in a magazine 2 years ago - 2 years of R and D wasted!

I wonder what the reasons are...doesn't look good for Smartphone.

Big applause for Sendo. Microsoft should stick to what they do best...ripping people off on the PC software market!

It must have been something quite big for Sendo to pull their flagship phone literally days before the release. I sure wonder what the real reason is.

I'm not defending MS here, but the whole debacle is a far bigger blow to Sendo than it is to Microsoft. I don't think Sendo made this decision based on principle or strategy. Saying that is typical PR and this is going to hurt their cash flow big time. Because of the timing of the announcement, it sounds to me like Sendo didn't have any other choice.

As far as I know the SPV is still on track...

as ive said elsewhere sendo couldn't make a decent doorstop - who here has one???? they probably ran out of money testing it & then couldn't afford to make it after.

SPV is on it's way - I got my hands on it the other day - the software occasionally 'hangs' & the centre keys are a bit closly spaced - the handset did not crash & quality is very good - it is rumured that the processor may be upgrade from 166mhz on production models - I tried a very late prototype model - it is EXCELLENT! I am not supried that its excellent. I have been saying it would be an excellent phone from day 1. I still stand by my first thought. Don't dismiss the smartphones just because of the OS being from MS. If you do that your short changing yourself from a very very nice device. Think about about that all you MS bashers out there.

I just don't understand ms bashing. It's all sour grapes from people that wished they were the ones that thought of 'it'. In this day and age if a different manufacturer was any good they would be in with a chance. i.e. Linux, people keep going on about how good it is and it should be on pda and phones but It's crap with no support except from people who assume you should know better than to ask for help! Long live ms!

>just because of the OS being from MS.
Well many years experience says: DONT buy any first version from M$
Regarding Z100 they blame M$ as they Didnt deliver software on the time and they are right another thing is how responsibile on this failure was Sendo's own hardware. Anyhow Its Shame formicrosoft as well as they anounced it as first phone with stinger long time ago.

Regarding SPV on one hand orangepuk is mentioning here how its hangs and then he says.. ITS EXCELENT! make up your mind ! and test again.. try to make phone calls.. a listen to that crapy sound try to record something and see that you actually didnt recor anything.. or try to just run play and close every apps and you will see for yourself.

Anyway i know that M$ Stinger gor enormous problems during 2 years of develop. and iam not gonna buy their 1st beta Software with some(spv)Mobile

to be fair to M$ here is their statment to Z100 case:
http://mobile.burn.com/news.jsp?Id=148

But i have to react to 1 sentence their:
"The best software will win and ultimately, the customer (both user and mobile operator) will be the victor."

Well nicely said ppl will think its true.. reality is somewhere else if u ask me.
I think that M$ will at the and win this market as well (like they did pushing IE against netscape) But Question is how will they win it?
By features ,apps stability are other smartfones on the market much more advance, but they are not standartized as M$ marketing deparment is pushing their product towards their own standarts. That means ppl want easy not just to use but also to learn something what they are already familiar with from their past experience. Simply M$ won browser market by simply make it available by default in every browser (not by features for sure) so it become standart which they created... now when user will want to buy mobile he will look in shop's display and thinks>
Hmmm their is p800 then their is SPV lets check them out
HE/She will pick them 1 by 1 running to the palm and thinks....
p800:Hmmm this is nice and seller is telling me that it got some nice features which SPV doesnt have maybe he wants to sell it as its more expensive , And i will have to take some time to learn how to work with it because its not anything i worked with before.
SPV: Hmm thays nice neat and HEY LOOK this is explorer icon Outlook
WOW.. this i already know! this is like mine PC desktop.. This outlook got all my friend so i can send something to them and i will be sure all of them could read it!... hmmm and its microsoft and its cheaper
lets buy this

Now as u can see not best software will win ...
Software maker will be pushed by ppl who already bought this phone to make better software And that the current situation with M$ and its Stinger M$ smartphone platform.

Maybe u think buyers will be idiots..
but no they arent they just behave in practical way...
ie. way they been trained all their past life....
everything has to be easy and seems familiar with their past experience
and thats the reason why Microsoft marketing is winning as it seem only they realized it!.

Mesage to Symbian : make GUI for DUMB PPL and even smart ppl will like it! and ohh + push your standarts even it means looses at the begining

@spacer - the T68 is an excellent handset - it to 'hangs' when I use wap - & YES, THE SPV IS EXCELLENT - it did not crash but just took it times doing certain things, thus 'hanging' - as I said thats why they are looking into releasing a bigger processor for it & I did make a phone call on it - what do you think I did with - just stared at it in amazement....???? I think not. [addsig]

just read the article aswell - quote from microsoft "The reason Sendo is switching is certainly not because of Microsoft's Smartphone software" It's not to say that obvoiusly microsoft may have covered up something - there is always that in corprorate shit like this - microsoft would never admit a problem with a product which THEY are pinning so much on aswell - so who knows why - it all seems very suspect.

Like I said, sendo have either run out of money for the handset or gone bust. The company must be run by a bunch of chimps - who spends 2 years & all that money developing something then pulling it at the last moment - lets hope not aswell - with P800 [addsig]
