i know that phones before FastPort was implemented on se phones, were using the serial interface. for example is the k608i which i know that it's a serial one. but, i've read in a site(forgot it though) that the small port at the side is a micro USB. because of this i'm having doubts.

could sum1 enlighten me?

thats a fastport usb on the side. Unlike the usb cable supplied with k750i, w810, w550 etc, this fastport cable is very limited in functionality. U cant charge the phone using this usb cable and u cant use this cable to update firmware via SEUS. Moreover dcu-11 also works fine for me with k608i. I prefer dcu-11 coz it even lets me charge via usb.

my k750i charges by usb... it depends on what pins your dcu-11 has i think.

Is the usb connector on the side of the 608 (and k600, v600 also) a fastport if all it can do is give access to the memory?

Also I think the fastport-usb connection in reality still is a serial connection, if you go through the settings on your computer you'll notice there's a lot to do about (virtual) com-ports.

Micro USB on the side of K600/K608/V630 now can be used to update the firmware thru SEUS or 3rd party like wotanserver using the supplied cable.
I tried it once and it's done well.

ok... but how come the transfer speed is just 400++kbps? unlike the fast port which they tell is already USB 2.0, w/c already has megabits/second speed.

@jemuel,

1. Are you saying the info about the port is not covered in the manaul?
2. www.sonyericsson.com --> support --> downloads -- manuals.

Yes, it is that simple.

yes... manuals tend to be simple and informative enough to normal users, who just want to get things done, but doesn't actually give sufficient info for heavy users and techies like me....

Maybe you can find out a few things if you connect the phone through that usb connector and then have a lookin the system management of your pc; it might reveal things like speed.

Things like that are not in the manual indeed. Long gone it the 'rtfm'-time. The only thing you can really do it plug it all in and find it out for yourself. (And after that has taken some time you think why the f**k do I really want to know it all and then you proceed to something more relevant)
