It depends on how sensitive your ears are. I find the mega-bass way over the top, the bass has almost no definition anymore, only weight. I actively dislike it.
The headset included with the k750 provides sufficient bass, no need to pump it up. But that's just me.

Does the distortion happen to all songs?

If not you may have encoded ur songs with some lossy encoding which reduces the bass dynamics.

Try to use the SE Walman phone headset. Because some non SE headphone can't take the level of the mega bass.

Then I think it's a possibility that the problem is with the song. For MP3 i suggest that you take at least 128 kbps bit rate. Yes 96 would make almost no difference in a normal volume but try to max it out. Furthermore, if you get the song originally with a lower bit rate, making it higher with some converter software won't help. It will only makes the file larger but with the same quality.

Well that's the problem with Megabass. It's way to strong and all it ends up doing is distorting the music. If you need bass, the generic 'Bass' equalizer setting should be enough.

I only use Megabass when listening to music, All my songs sound perfect, some you need to just lower the vulume a bit especially if its the volumes full.

I think it could be the bit rate of that particular song thats making it distort.

Ps dont waste trying the walkman headsets, they much much worst.
