I didnt notice if it had this problem since day one, but ive accidentally pulled the data cable once and dragged the phone through the floor (it made it through scratchless through, so I doubt that's it).

Unfortunately I bought this phone while I was out of town, that's halfway through the country and I can't take it back all the way there I took it to a *authorized* service center around here, the helpdesk girl looked at the unit (didnt really tear it apart or anything, just took out the battery) and said a "dome foil" replacement is in order, and the part costs US$6 + US$10 tech fee

anyone else had issues like this, and how bad is a dome foil failure? should I expect more hardware problems down the road?

@Aware
oh no no i wont dare do such thing

update: since the part's taking forever to become available, i went ahead to one of those skanky repair shops downtown. the nice man emotionlessly tore my K800 apart, peeled some white plastic thing, un-/re-soldered something, put everything back together and the backlight problem's gone *cartwheels* my problem now though, is that he left some nasty fingerprints on the LCD/underside of the front cover and it's killing me. he had a hard time getting the power button in place so I was second-guessing if i wanted him to pry my phone open again and wipe the fingerprints for fear of breaking the latches on my phone.

at least the backlight's OK now 1
