im looking to buy a 4gb mspd for my p990, which i have just ordered ...And i need to buy online, as no stores have them yet, well from what ive seen any way.
I emailed a seller about this item, checking if it was really genuine or not, saying that the 4gb sticks (genuine ones) come in blue and white packaging, not the redish, silver ones, like all the fake ones do and the 1gb/2gb mem sticks.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBa[....]247&sspagename=ADME:B:AAQ:AU:1

I got this reply from them:

Hi, thanks for the contact. We value all our customers and would prefer to do business honestly. Our SONY MS chipsets are made by SONY Japan but they are slightly different from the official Australian/American/European SONY products in both the package and specifications. These SONY Memory Sticks are Asian Version for China, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, the quality is similar to the USA Version but the cost is 10% of the official ones. There is no official SONY Memory Stick on ebay or any of the online shoping websites because the demand is very poor. In this industry the difference between Genuine or Fake is about the quality and true capacity. As the manufacturer we know 50% of the Asian version memory sticks are transfered from low capacity chipsets but they are still being sold on ebay. In many websites these kind of products were said to be counterfeits. If you would like to enjoy the quality with low price then please feel confident to purchase our products, if you prefer to support official SONY brand, then we can also order the official one for you, the cost is AU$400 each without adaptor.

Is this true, about the versions being different, never heard that before?

Do i buy from them, or is this just an excuse to try and avoid saying, 'they are fake'????

thanks

@ads - Fake indeed mate ! But the price is kinda expensive At my end, they mostly sell - class 1 Sony 1 and 2 GB Pro Duo ones . . about almost HALF the price of the GENUINE one . . . they say that those FAKE ones will not LAST long like that of the originals But WILL perform - at PAR! [addsig]

never fall for this ... this is not genuine....
and never buy these imitations.. i had once fallen for this and had to suffer a lot... but luckily paypal refunded me the full amount....
go for an online shop that sells original ones... there are online shops that might even ship internationally...
read some of the reviews in this site before y0u go for sony card... there are better and cheaper ones out there

Those fake ones have the thing to DRAIN your battery like nothing else! I had one and my battery was empty overnight! Why and how, don't know. Read somewhere here, its clearly explained.

Is there any easy way u could make up a fake card and the original ones just by looking at it? I mean just if a local dealer decide to increase his price of a fake card just to avoid suspicion, you'ld definately be duped if you can't tell the physical difference between a fake and original.

thanks all, i just wanted to know if what he said was true. He could have just said they were fake

any way, i might buy one from this seller:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SONY-4[....]goryZ18870QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I think its genuine, what do people think, genuine?

also, my brother just got his from this listing
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130047325369

That one is GENUINE.....but that seller has not relisted them in ebay Australia, only ebay USA, so i may have to buy from the first listing. Should i? Im not looking to spend more than $150aud

cheers

One of the things to look for is the PRINT on the packaging . . . Genuine ones have a SHARPER print . . . also, it has a warranty CARD inside (that's what I know of when I saw an original packaging at my end . . .) YES, better get the Sandisk, as proliferation of FAKE ones is NEVER known of, compared with - Sony's . [addsig]
