me and my sister have been asked to help my mum out in picking a phone for my dads christmas.
i think sony ericsson make the best phones so i have went through possible phones to buy him and ended up deciding that the w850i or k800i are ideal.
i'd just like to know what one you would pick and the reason(s) why or if you can suggest any other phone models then please do.
he currently owns a rubbish mp3 player that takes disposable batteries so it would be ideal if his phone could also become his mp3 player if you know what i mean.
thanks for any help in advance

Do you think he'd be more interested in taking pictures or listening to music?

thats a hard question actually. he listens to his mp3 player at work but he also takes alot of pictures of the grandchildren acting stupid. as long as the camera takes good quality pictures and the phone has good battery life to listen to music he will be fine. |

If you like the smart sexy looks of the K800, then I suggest that. The camera is excellent, one of the best and with real flash, my dad has sold his digital camera since now I have my K800 it's pointless having something inferior as well (yes a digital camera). The W850 obviously has its Walkman style, if that's what he likes, though the camera is poor compared to the K800 and also doesn't feature auto-focus. The W850 has its very good Walkman branded music player with a few extra features, though these features are not really needed and anyway the K800's music player is great anyway, superb quality along with artist/track/album view etc just like the Walkman phones. The K800 being also more expensive does really tend to topple most phones with its brilliant selection of many features, its camera and its great music ability, though this is not to put down the W850, since it's also a great phone, and preferrable to sliding phone fans. The K800's screen and video playback abilities are also amazing, once converted on the computer correctly and with the right sized memory stick, the K800 will easily playback movies at Ipod video quality, only with a slightly smaller yet sharp and super screen.
My vote would be for the K800, though make sure you give the W850 a good consider as well as researching other Sony Ericsson phones on the market, and of course if you must see some other makes as well...

thanks for the advice so far
when you listen to music on the k800i is the battery life just identical to listening to music on the walkman w850i? i think i am swaying towards the k800i but need to think about it |

I would say the k800. It does music as well, just not with the Walkman application. However, there is a huge difference between the camera of the two. Also, I think the k800 looks better and more refined. |

I have used both phones for some time and I hate to disagre with the general public here but I much prefer the feel of the W850i, and the walkman aplication is most excelent. |

Go for the w800 or k750 w/ CID36 dude and learn how to use FAR, then buy a 2gb or 4gb MS Pro Duo, then I think its a perfect christmas gift! |

The K800i. Even James Bond uses it.

If your dad likes taking pictures then it has to be the K800 has it really has the best of both worlds. While the W850 may have an excellent MP3 player, the K800's mp3 player is more than adequete. I used to have a walkman phone and have no problems with the walkman on the K800 at all.
When it comes to comparing the K800 and the W850 camera theres no comparison as the K800 has an excellent camera, and if he want to take picture of the kids playing it's probably a better option since the K800 has auto focus and they're less likley to come out blurred. It also has the best pic option where it takes 8 pics at once and you choose the best. |

to be fair to the k800i, the w850i has been in the shops for a shorter time, so therefore there may be less reports of long-term problems with the phone. have Sony Ericsson not changed the design of the k800i now though? if they haven't....they're being pretty stupid.
