Hi , i bought my t68i from a guy in the adtrader, and the phone is locked to orange, but only after purchasing i realised it was a phone that had been on a pay monthly plan, do you think i can unlock it, or will they take the phone off me because it was meant for someone elses contract? I would be greatful for some advise on this matter.

The problem is i am worried they dont do it properly, and they mess up the phone, which is common when not done professionally

know guys? there are two ways on how to unlock the ericsson/se phone, it's either by attaching a cable to it attached to computer or by entering the nck code of the said phone. the most safe if by entering the 8 digits nck. it's just like entering your phonelock code or the pin code. and as long as you know the said code, you have the luxury of locking and unlocking you phone by yourself.
problem is where to get the nck?

I saw in another thread (I'll try to find it for you later) where they were discussing unlocking and also flashing phones. Several people mentioned that http://www.unlocking.co.uk/ does Remote unlocking for a small fee, about £5 GBP for one unlock. You do need a data-cable to attach it to your PC first though.
I'm not sure if this service shows up on their website or not but apparently you can e-mail them.
Also, I bought three T68i phones from people on eBay, two were fully unlocked and the final one was an Orange branded one (with the orange square at the bottom of the fascia) but it was locked to certain networks, even though the Simlock menu suggests that all 4 types of lock have the number 5 next to the padlock.
This would usually indicate that it is fully unlocked since that's what I get with the other two phones

I couldn't get an unlocked T68i for a long time because the guy who unlocks my phones couldn't get onto the server that did it. |

where abouts do you live, mine was on orange and i got mine unlocked in a shop while i waited, it was only a week old. It cost me £25 though but i would rather pay that than send a brand new phone off to anyone. No problems with it either after |

Hmmm. I know we aren't supposed to discuss unlocking phones on this forum but I have a question:
I am on contract with Orange and have Orange care which means that they replace lost phones for free.
What is to stop me 'losing' my phone and then unlocking it and selling it? I would get another one off Orange for free.
Can Orange do anything about it? Do they list the phone as stolen if it is lost? If so then how can they do anything about it if it is unlocked?
In theory I could get a new one every week! Not that I would ever do such a thing of course. |

drhigh5 - if you do that orange will indeed bar the handset. this is done by barring the IMEI number (the phones serial no).In the old days this would have prevented the phone being used on the orange network only. Now, however, all the networks share the IMEIs of phones reported as lost/stolen (especially if they have been subject to a network insurance claim). What this means is that if you put your sim into a phone on this list, your sim will be barred and your phone will display a message such as 'stolen phone bar'. You can remove this bar by calling your service provider. However, if you have your card barred like this 3 times, they will not remove the bar. Ever. This is because they accept that you might put your sim in a second hand phone that you don't know is stolen whilst believing it is ok, but to do it 3 times implies you are up to something dodgy (which is what you were proposing).
The only way round this is to change the IMEI number of the phone, but as of Nov 1st that is a criminal offence punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
hope that answers your question! |

i`m in South Wales so its a bit far, the shop does do a mail order but like i said i personally wouldn`t send my phone in the post. You could try looking on, uk telecom mobile, there are plenty who can do it on there perhaps a bit closer to you, |

Orange barr there phones via the imei when they are reported missing, so the only way to fraud orange insurance is to change the imei. O2 on the other hand never bought the software to remotely lock phones via imei, which is why they ask for a police report and various other details when you submit your claim.

Thanks Blackcat!
I actually feel better that I cannot commit a criminal offence and get away with it. It has removed any temptation that may have lingered in the back of my mind.
I have another question: At the end of my year's contract with Orange can I then keep my phone and unlock it legally? |
