Hi,

For no apparent reason yesterday, the volume slider on my T68i stopped working. It won't bring-up the Status screen in standby, nor will it change the volume in calls. I have not dropped the phone, or abused it in any way.

I tried doing a master reset, but that just resulted in me losing all my phone numbers, etc etc (not good!). Is there anything else I can do?

I'm really disappointed that my less-than-three-months-old phone has began to go wrong, and it's nothing that I have done!!

Cheers,

Matt

I always thought the volume slider on T68 phones were too small and felt cheap in comparison to the rest of the phone. I would have preferred two separate buttons myself. Oh well

I agree ~Tangy, never had any problems with the volume buttons on the 8210. Problems with everything else... but that's another story!

Does anyone know whether Radiophone in Norwich will be able to help me with this problem? Would I be expected to pay for the repairs -- how do I stand with regards my warranty?

I'm with you MDS -- having something wrong just niggles me!! Just got an e-mail from SE with details of whom I should send it to (Celestica).

Is there a way of altering the volume during calls (given that my slider is knackered!!)? Would be appreciated - getting deafened by the damn thing at the moment!

Many thanks,

Less than 2 weeks after I got my phone, I noticed one day that my volume slider was gone! I was lucky though, the store where I bought it replaced it for free...

As fate would have it, the problem has struck again.

I was out with some friends today and had taken my phone out to use the GPRS. At any rate I left the phone in my lap and after we got to our location in the car, I stood up. The phone fell litarally about a foot, and when I picked it up, low and behold, the volume slider was gone. I couldn't believe it, I was just flabergasted, again the slider broke off. This time with such a tiny fall. I was steping out of the car directly on to the curb because my friend parked so close to it. Because of a physical disability I have I litarally need to turn completely out of the car and slowly lift myself up.

The phone otherwise doesn't have a scratch on it. I'm going to attempt to contact ericsson at this point, and find out if they will repair it. I was trying to be extra careful to avoid this and it happens a second time in as many weeks. I don't see how they can manufacture the product to break so easily. Maybe I should start carying it around in a gigantic foam case...

Perhaps the store you had it fixed in put in another dodgy one.

I'd just take it back there again and see if they will replace it again.

They had completely replaced the phone with a new one the first time it broke. There was one slight difference this time, the box it came in was an official Cingular labled box, the last was just the T68 (though it was still a cingular phone). When I had them replace it the first time, I had to fight a long and hard battle with them to convince them I did not misuse the phone in any way. This time I did "drop" it (if you call it that). I really don't think I have any chance of suceeding again. If worst comes to worst I do have insurance on it. I believe it will cost me $20 to get a replacement. I dunno the exact rules, but if it covers theft or loss, I may just end up "loosing" it. That is of coarse if I can't get ericsson to do anything.

As it stands I do have some evidence on my side to support that it should not have broken. For almost 4 years now I have carried a Nokia 5165 cell phone (given to me from my work). I've NEVER had any problem with it. Also for round 8 months I carried a Nokia 8290 around with me, until I broke it (by tampering around with it after I had chanded the cell phone body with a new one, then changed it back). This was absolutely my fault, comming from direct misuse of the phone. Following that I purchased a Nokia 3360, which I used up until I got my ericsson last month. I also have carried a Visor Prism (Palm PDA) with me every where I go for the last 2 years. Before that I carried a Palm IIIe PDA as well. I also carry around an Apple iPod which I've had for about 2 months now (a month longer than the phone). As it stands ALL of these still work perfectly, with no problems from general use. As it stands, YESTERDAY I dropped my iPod from the top of my sholder on to black road pavement, because I tried to stuff it in my sleve while running though the rain. And yes, take into account it was pooring and the pavement was soaked. The iPod landed face down very hard, and I was totally freaked, but as of today it still works fine, none worse for the ware as far as I can tell. With all these things taken into account, it does not make any sence that a cell phone which I litarally use less than ANY of the rest of my devices (I litarally use less than an hour of talk time a month), breaks after two weeks. And once I get a replacement it too breaks after two weeks. At this point I think ericsson is my best hope. They did manufature the phone, I figure if any other company can ensure it gets fixed properly (and as a result hopefully never has the problem again), it would be the manufaturer...

Also there were 4 other people in the car with me when I got out, they can contest it fell litarally less than a full foot. 3 of these people I had litarally only met earlier that (this?) day.
