NEC and Panasonic today announced the establishment of a new company, ESTEEMO, which will carry out the development of mobile handsets, including the development of a common software and hardware platform.

ESATO NEWS

The company name "ESTEEMO" has been coined from a combination of the words Esteem and Mobile to signify establishment by Panasonic and NEC as business partners with mutual esteem for each other, the target of acquiring esteemed customers and of becoming an esteemed company in the market for the development of mobile handsets. www.panasonic.net www.nec.com

Software and Hardware?

It sounds to me like they are merging their mobile business'. They already make great handsets for the Japanese market.

Weird name though; sounds like a second-rate comic book super-villain.
What about PanasoNEC?

It sounds like a antiperspirant deodorant.

Aren't Panasonic and NEC part of Matsushita Corp?

LMAO, even more appropriate...you can even imagine an 'Esteemo' ad, complete with sultry, whispering female voice saying, "Esteemoooooh... for men."

Panasonic is part of the Matsushita group, but (correct me if I'm wrong) I think NEC isn't under the same corporate umbrella.

Thats rignt Panasonic and Toshiba are one and the same.

Still, its unusual for those to to merge I think. I thought they both had decent market share in the far-east.

And Technics? I presume you meant Matsushita, not Matsushima.
