Memory issues with T300 |

Ok, I noticed something strange last night. I wanted to free up some memore in my phone so I deleted some of the pre-installed pictures. They deleted just fine but didn't free up any memory tho.
To try something else I reseted the phone and all the original pictures I've deleted came back. Ok, that itself isn't all that strange since I suppose they're factory installed. (They should've had stopped me from deleting them since it didn't free any memory tho)
Here's the strange part. Right after the reset I had something around 560 k free memory, but as soon as I went to look at the pictures (and let them load as you do the first time you look at them) I lost some memory.
So if you don't actually look at the pre-installed images you get more memory free for other things. And if you do look at them while you're almost out of space you will run out of memory. (The same goes for MMS templates and so on, basically anything with pictures)
This has got to be a bug, right?
[edit] Oh, and my phone is running with R1B008

There is a simmilar error on my T68i,
on the memory status it says that i have 37kB stored in MMS outbox, but when i go there, it's nothing there! Also when I try to delete the 37kB in the memory status, is ony displays 'No messages'!
Kind'a anoying!

Yeah, I've noticed something simular and I'd be grateful if someone with knowledge of the firmware could sort this out.
If one look via the "My Pictures" a pic may show as 5k big but if you go through options => memory => pictures and choose the same one to delete it could show as maby 10k big...
And of course it takes up the biggest of the two =(
(Had my phone in for repair since it frooze on me so these numbers may not be accurat but you get the idea)
Now, why is this fenomena happening and is it something that could be fixed in a update ? |

I have the same problem as Closey (I know him) and I also got me a T300.
MMS-Template folder is very annoying. When you do a total reset all templates in the folder are deleted, but the folder uses more memory than before. After total reset the MMS-Template folder uses about 139Kb of memory and before (when it is full of templates) it use 80-85Kb.
This is weird! I wrote to SonyEricsson support but they didn't know anything. They said that I should go back to my local dealer and have them take a look at the phone. I have a feeling that my local dealer doesn't knows more than SE support team.
Anyone else having the same problem with T300? |

I have a t68i sw R3E (stupid T-Mobile hacked revision) and just from playing around with the picture folder it seems to behave a little like MS Windows does when it creates thumbnail views of pictures in a folder. Notice that after the thumbnails get generated the first time you never have to wait... this tells me it must be caching the small views. |

There's something similar with the ringtones (at last the preinstalled polyphonic) on T300.
I deleted CARMEN but the memory wasn't released.
A message came up that said something like: "Deleted rintone. Released memory: 0 kb. Taken memory: 17 kb." (Don't know exactly wording, because it's german). Then I tried to reinstall CARMEN again, but it took another 17 kb and didn't took it's old place.
Does anyone know, how to get this memory free or CARMEN back?
Thanks in advance.

been thinking about this. This is what I came up with:
When you delete something (tune, picture, game) pre-installed, the phone won't actually delete it, only make it unavaliable. This because it has to be able to put it back when making a "full restore". Only a thought...

I have to go with mejrum's thought there. Perhaps it's just "packed" away in the ROM somewhere. |

To get "carmen" back you need to do a total restore of the phone. All the ringtones that is in the phone when you buy it are pre-installed. That means that you cannot delete them, just make them unavailiable to select. If you delete a pre-installed ringtone it only disappears from the list, it still uses the same memoryspace because if you really could delete things you would never get them back with your total restore function. The same goes with the pictures, but not the games (so be careful and make sure you have the .mpn files of the games on your computer before doing a total restore)

@DarkElf: Thank you for that information.
But if I do a total restore, will all settings go back to standard? What about WAP-Settings? And will all uploaded ringtones and pictures be deleted?
And one more thing: How can I save the games to hard-disk? Is this possible via IR-adapter? |

Everything you've uploaded to the phone will be lost with a reset, including the games and settings. You can't transfer the games from the phone to the computer (I'm guessing it's meant to stop piracy)
You can however download them from sonyericsson's wap site with a wap capable browser like Opera and save them on your computer that way. |

There is a way to get some more free memory in the T300. Me and DarkElf was messing around with this for a while until he figured out a way to stop those pre-installed pictures to take up any space.
After a complete reset the sonyericsson pictures doesn't take any space before you actually look at them (I'm guessing it creates thumbnails of them or loads them from a ROM chip somewhere) so if you stop the phone from being able to load them you'll be able to delete them and get the extra free memory.
Easiest way to stop them from being able to load is to fill the phone's memory up first. (Having an IR or a cable would help at this stage)
After the reset, turn off the background picture and the screensaver (otherwise that SE logo will load as the background), activate the IR and fill the phone up with MIDI's or whatever (works with pictures too). When you reach 0 byte free memory you can go to My Pictures and delete all the stock pictures without them being able to load (They'll just show empty white boxes)
After that you just delete all the stuff you used to fill the phone up with and you're done. It might sound like too much of a hassle, but it freed up around 100 K for me, and that's quite a few backgrounds/games/signals. |

if you want to 100% free the mms you have to delete all the thing inside it including the sent, receive, and every thing in mms (which you can delete ) then you will have 0% memory used in mms !!!!
i got 0% used in mms !!!! |
