hi guys,
I am in the middle of acquiring a brand new Sharp v904. for those who dont know what it is, its an upgraded v903 with vga screen 3.2mp cam optical zoom etc.....google it....

Its a japanese version, locked to voda japan, but am getting a jap voda sim so that i can actually use the phone.

The phones software/language can be set to full english, and the keypad has a few jap characters on it, but is not very noticeable (has english characters too of course). The manuals are in both japanese and english (i think, i may be wrong about the english part though, im just waiting on more details from the person i am getting it off)

As some may know, these phones CANNOT be unlocked as yet but an unlocking solution is very close i have been told. So it will be unlocked soon after i get it. Though i will contact Vodafone Australia and see if they can help me with this to speed up the process.

I was wondering if any one on here would be interested in buying it, and what sort of offers id get for it, cash or trade.
Or, if nothing decent from here, it would go to ebay.

Bare in mind, once its unlocked, the value of the phone will go up quite a bit, which is where ebay MAY come in more handy than here.

let me know people

thanks

p.s. ill try and get pics up as soon as i can

And the phone is the violet/purple version, ill get some pics up soon....

edit: pics:

sorry about the quality

also, notice japanese keypad characters are not very noticeable...

That has got to be the ugliest, most vulgar thing to call itself a phone I have ever seen!
What would posess anyone to actually give money for that?

Good luck with the sale! (You`re gonna need it! )

Hi,

I had one of these, plus the 905 in my hand last month.

It is very good and screen is excellent !

Please update us with the unlocking situatoin.

and, when it is unlocked, what services exactly, will be available for use on non-Japanese networks. I ask, because the email setup in Japan is very very different.

160 pounds..depends on the answer to my questions though...

I don't think it's ugly. I think it looks nice and indeed sharp make excellent phones.

I'm interested in knowing if you can unlock it (or flash it)

I will update here about the unlocking situation when ever i get more info. when its unlocked, im guessing the price will go through the roof for this

Most of the features will be available, apart from a couple japanese applications i think. Though, ill have to look into it a bit more to make sure.....and ill update here when i find out

Apparantely there are beta unlock solutions out, but are unstable and sms doesnt work properly on it, so hopefully soon a stable solution will be available soon

thanks for your reply,

yes, the beta unlock is not so useful...

Worth reading what AL9999 has to say here

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1011886

He is, in my opinion, very well up on Japanese mobiles.

@ofiaich

Yeah thanks for that. Well it seems email wont be functional, though is there a lot of people who send emails from there phones, i know i dont....to me its useless, unless its a p990 or something like that.

Someone on hofo also stated in that thread that you may not be able to enter your network settings for internet etc as some phones dont allow it these days, though i think thats NOT the case with the v904....

But as i said earlier most functions will be available, the odd one or 2 apps may not work, but im looking into it.

When its 'properly' unlocked, you never know, they could find a way to allow emails.

if anyone has any other queries, offers etc, pm or reply here

thanks

Amnesia, the phone hopefully can be 'properly' unlocked soon, beta solutions are available but are unstable, so hope its not too long now....

The phones can be flashed, though this one doesnt have voda branding, only a couple logos on the phones body...

Just waiting to pick it up. I took the photos of the phone the other day when i went to look at it, but didnt bring it home that day. It was new in the box, but i wanted to test it first.

Its a really good phone, FANTASTIC screen, great cam, good speakers, build quality is good, menu is fairly good, but of course i prefer sony ericssons menu layout.....

I am still interested but can you check this out, because my sources tell me

" Since the 904SH, all the Japanese Sharps have had their Internet Settings options deleted, which means you can't manually configure them with a different operator's settings (only the automatic configurator for Vodafone Japan is left in there now). That's besides the fact that there's still no unlock and nobody really knows when it's going to arrive (people have said they are close since early this year and keep saying it despite no progress).

So, even if an unlock is made to work, you'd still only be able to use voice calls, video calls, SMS, and nothing else at all."

I know Japanese phones very well too, and do busy there and visit many times a year.

So voice, video calls, SMS and camera...... and still no unlock..

I also hope you do not pay for a phone that is very limited, when used outside of Japan

Good luck !
