I bough my t68m unlocked. I was subscribed to Fido it works fine there, but I had to switch to Rogers AT&T because of corporation deal I got at work. Since then I can't make a clear phone call or receive a calls. I was with Rogers tech support everyday trying to fix the problem and finding out what could coz the problem. I been told to upgrade to t68i is the solution to my problem, I did so and it works better then it was. I also forget to say that I had to make the call 3 or 4 times before I got connected to the caller. What I am asking is if anyone who had the same problem how did you fix it and what did you do???
Please let me know or reply to me... I am really really stuck with this crab.

Doubt any1 has a solution yet, too new a phone on the network. But try those signal booster things you stick under the battery. Gimmicky but might help? Good luck!

Hi there,

As Prom1 has told me before FIDO has a better GSM signal in the GTA. I tried it on the weekend unlocked t68i and the reception was better in a lot of areas. But have faith....I'm with Rogers and everyone tells me my phone reception bites the big one and it does. BUt this has caused my to constantly stare at my signal and in the last week it seems to be getting better. I guess they are developing rapidly. The other thing i find is that the signal is usally very weak indoors but fantastic in the open.... does being indoors obstruct signals that much?? my old cdma didn't seem to have the same problem?

About the signal booster, I have one and it works kinda.... it seems to give me an extra bar... the thing is when i have that extra bar i can hear the person well but they can't here me... but it does usually give an extra bar.

Does anybody know what GSM 850 is?? Someone told me that North America will be using that soon ??????

Just an observation, has anybody noticed that the Rogers At&t site stopped the adds for sending pictures using the t68i?? I guess they couldn't figure out how to do it and were getting to many questions so they had to pull the ads..... mwwhahaha maybe they should go ask FIDO for a helping hand.

well that is right they still have problem with the phone, they can't even get the e-mail system to work, I spend over 2hrs last time with the tech support to get my e-mail set but he couldn't get it working so he told me that he will put a service request for me and then they will contact me. so they didn't and I call them back after 2 days to check they told me they are facing a technical defecalties with the system and they can't get it working so as soon as it over they will call me. 3 weeks now and I haven't recived any call from them yet. so I guess they still have the problem. there service is getting better by the time so we just have to wait till it get fixed. and the thing is they make you signe a contrac so you have to pay for the shitty service while they are improving.. in the other word they make you pay for there engineer to fix there problem.

After using GSM for 5 years in Europe, I was completely disapointed with the quality of the GSM networks in Montreal (both Fido and Rogers). I couldn't use my T39m in my apartement nor at work (the signal was too weak). The solution was to buy a decent CDMA with Telus... All my problems vanished just like that... It seems like it's better to use GSM in Europe and CDMA in North America. This is my advice to frequent travelers between the two continents.

tao980, I thought that CDMA wasnt available in Europe at all? That a simular version of CDMA in China & Korea exists, W-CDMA like version and CDMA2000 respectively. What service provider in Europe uses CDMA and in what country? Just curious, never been there.

I dont know whom had a similar problem with Network support with Rogers, but in one of my posts I did warn that your lucky if they do call back in 3 days. They barely call back other reps internally, hehe.

Anyhow sorry to hear that you didnt get better signal, and as I expected email directly into the email client of your T68i still isnt possible with Rogers, thought that they'd get this fixed by now. Guess that they should've kept the person that thought of the idea of selling this phone in the first place, and getting a dedicated team of Network Engineers to support an elite team of users to play with all features of the phone. That way supporting the functions of the phone would be beneficial to their customers, along with their customers incurring more $$ using the features of the phone on their network, but DUH. what do I know, I just worked for DCC/ICC (sorry internal jargon).

Never fear though they should have this solved by the end of December, I hope.

Hey Everybody,

You'll never guess what happened today. I was chillin @ work and Rogers called my phone. They called to ask me what type of phone is was using. I told them I had a t68i and they asked whether or not i had the camera then if i wanted to use the email picture function? Then they told me that i cannot us the picture email with my data plan and that i must upgrade to the $30 data plan or the $50 data plan to send pictures. I could not email pictures even on "as pay as you go" like text messaging. I said "no". Anyways, anybody else get a call?? If so are you using the picture email and does it actually work??? I didn't feel like spending more money. On a function i rarely use... but either way my email still doesn't work....

DragonEye:

850 is the same as 800 because:

The 800 mhz band in North America is set aside for any type of cellular service. Originally this was AMPS but digital went in there eventually too.

1900 mhz is also a band reserved in North America for Cellular. In this case referred to as PCS because it was opened up for digital carriers. There is no reason why you couldn't put AMPS in there if you wanted to, but they don't.

850 simply refers to the portion of the 800-899 mhz band (actually goes a little lower than 800 but you get the point) that is owned by Rogers/AT&T in the states which are deploying the only 850 mhz GSM because they are the only carriers that own specturm in the 800 mhz range that are deploying GSM. All the rest of them came later and only own spectrum in the 1900 mhz band.

In Europe they use 900 mhz and 1800 mhz respectively for the exactly same reasons.

In North America these bands couldn't be used becasue 900 mhz is reserved as an unregulated band (your 900 mhz cordless phone for example) and 1800 mhz has other stuff. (Millitary I think, but don't quote me on that)

Hence why we use different bands than Europe does, but for all intents and purposes it's the same deal, and 800 mhz responds about the same as 900 mhz as does 1800 and 1900.

Why would Rogers/AT&T want to deploy 850? Yes, data congestion in the cities, however its mainly a benefit for AT&T in the states in cities because there are places where they ONLY have 850 mhz bandwidth and not 1900 mhz and their customers would have to roam if they were using a GSM phone.

Further, yes, 800/850/900 mhz does penetrate buildings about 10-20% better (depending on the composition of the walls of the building) than 1800/1900 mhz because of the wave length.

However, if you have a clear line of sight with no obstructions (i.e. even trees screw it up) then 1900 mhz will travel farther in the open air, just as a 2.4 ghz cordless phone will travel farther than a 900 mhz cordless phone. It's only when there is an obstruction that 800/850/900 mhz will penetrate and keep going farther than 1800/1900 mhz.

And since most of us talk on a phone while there are trees/buildings etc. in the way, 800/850/900 mhz is good for those times.
