it does seems unusual to me.. it's like there's something that blocked the lense.. can you see anything on the screen when you ready to shoot ? say.. an object that you want to take.. do you?

A friend dropped a 6 kilo steel bar on his K800(3ft drop) a fortnight ago.....trashed the screen, but I noticed during testing that he had something which had 'slid' over the camera lens, a thin sheet like yours..........found it moved if I tapped phone in different directions, also found it fouled the lens cover if I moved it certain directions.......
......really needed stripping, but he sent it back for replacement.........
......amazing that the phone even worked after a beating like that tho', apart from the screen/lens, all fine..... |

I have noticed that there is a shutter on the K800i, it normally only operates when the flash operates.
If that shutter is closed I presume that all pictures are coming out black. If this is the case then send it back again to be repaired.

i cant see any thing on the screen, or try to take a pic because my K800i is dead at the mo. i sent it to the service centre because i died on me. software crash. but because its an "EU spec" the service centre refused to sort it. i dont know it might open up once the phone is switced back on but the other 1 was switched off and it wasn't shut on that 1. it just had me curious...

my K800 looked like that the day i got it.
it FREAKED ME OUT.
the phone was off, and all that...
i slid open the lens cover just to check...
and i saw that black plastic stuff? blocking it...
i was soooooo scared that i had a messed up phone.
but then... when i turned it on, opened my lens cover again,
i could capture images with the camera, and that black thing was gone.
i was so relieved...
i guess it's like an internal lens cover.

Same here mate when I had mine shipped to my hotel in Las Vegas I slid the lense open before even turning it on in the elevator and was like "cool it has a shutter". It would be cool if it closed while the phone is powerd off incase the cover is accidentally moved, to prevent possible direct light damage to the lense.

i just noticed that my k800 black shutter is cracked when i opened my lens cover and it revealed the black shutter. I tried to see it again but now it only shows the lens.. I had no idea there was a shutter underneath the plastic above the lens..
i remember accidently crushing the outer lens cover but it did not get damaged so i assumed everything was fine.
if the black shutter cover as you've mentioned in this thread is damaged, will it affect the quality of my pics?
i have no idea how the thing works or of its importance.. all i know is that i cant seem to get it to reveal now and was shocked to see the cracks in the shutter. how will that affect my photos and the lens in general? |

When I open the slider sometimes I notice that black shutter aswell,
it seems to open though when the sliders fully open

I've got a faulty and dead k800i here, and it looks like the cam shutter switch has been snapped off. The camera unit on that has that black 'shutter' on it too, hopefully if I put that camera unit into a working K800i it would activate and work fine, i'll see if I can post a couple of pics later, am just about to go out now!

well its been established that it is an internal shutter but mine is actually damaged. i think cos i accidently banged it earlier on it casued the shutter to close but i think the damage to it was done a long time ago cos i doubt the cracks in the shutter would have been cos of todays incidents.
does anyone else have this same problem?
does anyone know how to get the shutter to close manually so i can take another look at the extent of the damage as i can't seem to get it to close up now no matter what i do?
when i use the flash the shutter closes and opens quickly but i cant notice the damage as its so quick. is there anyway to get it to close? i've tried turning off the phone to no avail..
as it is cracked the shutter what is the future problems i might have? i see that it still opens and closes fine when i use the flash but i can imagine the broken part which is cracked may no longer close in future which i guess will cause the image to be obscured with that piece of shutter covering it.
its still under warranty though.. i've only had it 3 months. would something like this be covered by warranty? |
