I suspect I already know the answer to this one, but will try anyways. Tried searching for this and couldn't find anything that exactly matched my problem.

I have a K750i, which works perfectly except for the memory stick reader. The phone won't recognise them, and if you try to boot the phone up with one in it hangs on the 'sony ericsson' screen. Take it out, the phone will continue to boot up normally, with or without a sim in.

The mainboard of the phone shows quite a bit of evidence of water damage, but everything else seems to work fine! It's probably moisture damage, but just wondering if there are any other possibilities.

Could it be firmware, or something else, or just simply moisture damage?

I'm guessing by the lack of replies (I'm not getting at folk there btw!) that I could be right with moisture damage, but am just looking to explore other avenues to ensure that it may not be something else, something simple. Despite other parts of the phone recieving what looked like a fair amount of moisture damage and still fully working I'm rather hoping the mem stick reader might be salvageable!

Oh dear. I appear to have killed the phone completely now!

Thought I'd leave a mem stick in it and leave the phone for a while to see if it will power up. It of course didn't, took the mem stick out, phone started to power up normally then froze on the 'searching' screen! This is all it will do now, get to the searching screen and hang, screen/keypad lights stay on but no one's home!

It powers up fine without a sim card though, goes through service tests fine etc.

Have I fried something software wise here? It's a lesson to you all anyway to be careful when trying to 'force' a phone to accept a memory stick if it's not booting up correctly, you could damage the phone further.

@sammy - My Dad's Nokia 6230 is having this memory card problem lately The unit was bought in 2004 . . . and it was just last week when the fone started to go berserk No water content (phone) though The message that always appear on the screen is: Invalid Sim Card etc. etc. the screen blinks for a while then goes OFF then ON again . . . my technician advised me to remove the memory card, then see if the fone will function NORMAL - again, and it does ! The card is a 128 mb Sandisk, 60 mb full (half) . . . my Dad will transfer all the files of the memory card in our PC and will CLEAR all the files on it, then FORMAT it in the fone . . . hope it will work.

I hope that your K750i will be FIXED soon mate ! [addsig]

I am having this same problem with my K750i. My phone is 2nd hand and seems to have a few software issues and i think this may be related as well. Initially i was having a problem with the phone where the joystick was functioning incorrectly ie. it would only work left and down and the 1,2,3 numbers werent working after a little playing around i found if i take out the battery and plug in the charger the software seems to reset to functioning. This isnt a foolproof solution but it is working more often than not and if my phone crashes for some reason it usually gets me out of trouble. Now i have just bought myself a 2G memory card and the phone wont recognise it at all this is pretty annoying but to add insult to injury i am having issues with my data cable. I plug the phone in, it shows charging and if i go to my devices on the computer the usb drivers i installed are showing my phone as a k750 but i cannot connect to any software. FMA wont work either on the serial cable or via bluetooth but i can happily send files to it over bluetooth using the xp send file function. Sony Ericsson seems to have some majorly flawed stuff and i wound up with the worst end of it. Looks like i will have to invest in something else!!
