The P990a is also mentioned on the front of this "Fun & Downloads" pamphlet that came in the box of my P990i.

"a" stands for the gsm frequencies that the united states uses ie. 850 and 1900 bands. overseas use the 900 or 1800 bands. i am desperately awaiting the p990a because i will get better coverage in the US using the 850 and 1900 bands. in addition, i would be able to use the UMTS on the 1900 band. i just emailed a SE rep, who said "they have no intentions of making a p990a" but why are they putting on the "p990i white page" and pamphlets that there will be a p990a? is SE just playing with us? that ain't right!!

chriswg52,
hey. i noticed you have the p990i. do u use cingular or t-mobile? how's the reception? do u think the p990i is worth getting now? should i just wait for the p990a? what i was thinking was maybe buying the p990i now and if the p990a comes out then sell it and get the p990a. what do u think? |

I just came from the US and spent a week with my P990i. I used Cingular both in Tennessee and California. No problems whatsoever. Good stable signals is what I got during my short stay. Hope this helps. |

hey louod,
I have a 990i and I use T-mobile and it works great. T-mobile is more capable with "I" (international) phones than Cingular. T- mobile can operate on the international fequencies....Not to say that Cingular wont work its just some people is some areas are having problems due to Cingular working on incapdible frequency. |

djsaad1,
do u know for sure if the p1000 is going to come out in 8 months? if that's the case i guess i'll have two phones to choose from. hopefully the p1000 is much better and doesn't have any bugs
lcrkz0023,
hmm. i was considering to change to t-mobile if i got the p990i. the only thing is that i heard from someone that t-mobile might start using the 850 band also. that's why i wanted to wait for the "a" version. i'm still undecided whether i should wait or get the p990i now but anyways, thanks for the info.
