After weeks of frustration converting movies to MP4 which causes my M600i to pause for minutes/hours, I tried out Sony's Image Convertor 2 for the PSP, and everything works perfectly - no pauses!

Hope this helps someone out there.

Hi all,
Only got my M600i today and transferred some of my converted media which is in 3gp format and all works beautifully on the latest firmware. Which is great news for me as means i don't have to convert the whole lot again. Haven't tried any MP4'S yet but i believe 3gp gives smaller file size and the quality is really good IMO.

Well, the quality of mp4 and 3gp is both depending on settings, I can make mp4 lower quality then 3gp, and vice versa

By default 3gp uses codecs which are a bit worse, but not too much. For example by default 3gp uses AMR codec for sound, while mp4 uses AAC. AMR is designed for speech and not for music, whilst AAC is designed for music ... and for speech I think .. (at least that's what I heard). For video egp uses the h.263 codec (I think) while mp4 uses the mpeg4 codec. h.263 is designed for lower bitrates, low motion. And there are also some limits on the bitrates for 3gp I think. Probably the media player doesn't check for the limits, hence you can play high-bitrate movies as well, but it might not be compatible for other phones. (btw, 3gp uses the standard video and sound codec used by mobile phones, ie. as far as I know videotelephony uses the h.263 codec, and moder phones uses the AMR codec for voice. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Space2,
To be honest i don't really care or worry about how it does just as long as it works, the only thing is i don't have to worry about messing around with any settings just hit convert and its done which suits me fine. The only slightly strange thing is all my files have been converted using Media suite 2.5.1 for Nokia but it runs on the M600 with no problems so it appears that 3gp is easier to run on all mobile phones and does appear to be free of the problems some are seeing with MP4 in its various guises is the only conclusion i can reach.
