Try seeing if this has been set:

Control Panel/Connections/Mobile Networks

Make sure it has been set to Search mode: Automatic

Failing that, I'd take the handset back (again) and make sure the new one they give you works, there and then, before taking it back home.

...i tried doing that but still unsuccesfull, i'm so frustrated....the first p990i that i got was working well with t-mobile, returned it bcoz it has chinese dictionary, lunar calendar and some chinese characters on the virtual keyboard...
...now that the p990i that i got is UK version, everything seems ok but cannot get any signal or network connection...
...maybe the handset is faulty...
...i'll try to post some pix taken...
...is there anything else i can try....
..thanks for the help

If it is a UK version, make sure it isn't locked to Vodafone or something else. Do you know that it is an unlocked handset? I have a P990i on T-Mobile USA too, and it connects perfectly.

@ footsie77 -- Yes, I have set up WIFI, and it works flawlessly for me! Sorry I can't be of more help for your connecting issue. Good luck with finding a solution. If you need me to check or confirm any settings on my phone, just let me know.

Just call T-Mobile up and explain your problem they mite reassure you somehow and assist you to get it working

it's odd how it's not reading the sim,
can you ask a friend if you can try there sim in it? try that

hope you get it sorted btw Goodluck!
