there is always a replacement thats for sure but not that soon and i dont think they will even announce it this year I mean why would they want to cut their sales on the phone I see no point in that the phone is great with lots of features and I don’t think after 10 months of hard work to get it to where it is now to kill it for a 3 month of sales my thoughts are that they will probably announce another one in Q2 2007 starts sales late Q3 early Q4 so u have one year from now to enjoy the p990
I've always felt that the z1010 was just an experiment by sony ericsson
I suggest that if u like the Pxxx and the p990 has everything u need then just go for it don’t wait too long

You are right about the 'older generation' the day it come out. Is funny to see how SE changed over the last few years, from a top class hi quality cell manufacturer to a money making one (or at least trying to make), just like the other cell companies. They concentrate at 'mass models' as Nokia used to do (and still does), and gives a damn about quality and customers. I remember the headlines when SE appeared on the scene 'Nokia watch out', 'Nokia gets real competition' etc, etc. and now . . . they are selling crap up and down the spectrum just like the others.

You don't half come out with some rubbish. SE is a business. As a business it is their goal to make money pure and simple. When they first started out both Ericsson and to an extent Sony were in trouble in the mobile market. Over the last few years they have turned things around brilliantly and are not only profitable, but produce a range of top quality phones.

Looking at SE's current line up most are higher end devices and their approch has always been quite simple - produce and sell higher end phones which make significantly more margin than Nokia can manage. The SE range is pretty clear with defined market segments rather than the sometimes bizarre scattergun approach Nokia seem to use.

I can't think of any other phone manufacturer who produce such a consistently high quality top end phone line up than SE themselves.

They should immediately withdraw the P990, apologize to the world, invest in R&D and bring out a P1000 before Christmas - without any bugs and with the latest hi-tech as they have done in the ground braking P-series before this crap come out. Also that keypad should be only implemented on the flip and the screen made bigger !

Can I have some of whatever you are smoking? That simply isn't going to happen.
Many of us with the P990i are very happy with it. I also think the consensus is that the keypad is much better on the phone than as on the flimsy flip like on the P910i. I'm also perfectly happy with the screen size thanks.

why as soon as a phone arrives which people have been waiting on for months on end, do threads like this get made which slates the phone and they talk about the next up and coming phone, which is going to be bigger and better...............the P990 has only been out a few days give it chance.

@sep990i Maybe it's because the p990i is an old phone already!which indeed it is, due to it's extremely postponed release.this is the reason i've retained my p910i.frankly, i wouldn't spend money on old rope.

it isnt old rope though......okay its been in the pipe line for a long time but it still has alot more features than the P910i and in my opinion i feel there are quite a few changes which warrants upgrading. Still has. alot more than most phones being brought to the market

If they will released the "p1000" maybe they already fixed the p990i then because the P1000 will durely used a newer version of OS. In symbian.com they said that you can upgrade the 9.1 to 9.3...

Like is to be expected, the P990i will have its initial bugs and it doesn't have to be a really high end phone for this to happen. Remember the early days of the K750i?

At least have always been able to provide updates to iron out these bugs, whereas until very recently, if you bought a buggy Nokia, you were stuck with the bugs and issues. The K750i is still near the top of the sales charts and has turned out to be a very successful well-rounded device - which is I am sure what the P990i will become.

Oh, and is a business and is out to make money. If it didn't it would sink and there would be no more cutting edge devices and handsets like the K800i - people have really took to.

There has been talk of a higher level phone than the P990i and a lower level one. Maybe it won't be a replacement but an expansion of the range. Personally I would say the W950 & M600 are an expansion as they are UIQ phones and aimed at different market sectors, such as entertainment and messaging, whilst the P990i is an all encompassing powerhouse.

There are lots of areas where we could all suggest improvements, not just to make the phone better as from my limited exposure and that of the people I have spoken to, they are very happy with the handset. It is more a case of bringing it up-to-date or possibly beyond what is available at present. Future proofing it for about 1 month

@Sunnychad In the previous post you said 'clearly people are very happy with the phone' refering to the P990i 'powerhouse'. Are you trying to be sarcastic or what?

@mario2004

No sarcasm, but I feel you might not agree with the opinions I have been given, what do you think?

Also to stay on the topic, do you think it will be superceded sooner than the standard lifecycle?
