K800i one hit wonder (USB recognition) |

Hi all. I've had my k800i for a few weeks now and LOVE it. Apart from one wee thing:
Initially I had problems installing the PCSuite Drivers etc, but it seems to connect fine now. (I installed the latest SE pack from fresh onto my office PC, NOT the ones that came with the CD)
However: It ONLY seems to connect once!
When I attach the phone to PC via USB, the phone is instantly detected and I tend to use it in "Phone Mode". Excellent so far.
If I need to leave the PC for 10 mins and detach the phone, however, the next time I reconnect it to the PC it's simply not recognised.
It seems the ONLY way I can get the PC to see my phone after first disconnection is to completely reboot my PC!?
Surely this can't be right ? I can't be rebooting my office PC every time I need to leave my desk.

do you disconnect the phone via the system tray first? i.e "safely remove hardware"???

I have this same problem, I just thought it was my computer as I seem to make heaps of things go wrong with it. I've had to keep taking the memory stick out of my phone and putting it in my card reader, which I don't like doing so much as my phone is in a BodyGlove most of the time.

Thanks for the fast reply there 50cent
.. safely removing the hardware from the system tray would be the obvious thing.
COULD I have been that stupid? SURELY I tried that!? Hmm.. popping into the office in an hour so I'll try that (again).

Nope, I'm not officially an idiot (yet). I booted up the machine, then attached the phone. All well and good so far. I did the "safely remove hardware" thing; waited until it said I could safely disconnect the SE phone, then disconnected it from the USB.
PCSuite says (of course) "no device connected", so I wait for 30 secs and re-attach the phone.
nothing.
I tried the "how to connect" wizard as well, but it just can't see the phone now. (at least not until next time reboot my PC!)
I'm fairly appalled that the SE software can be this bad, especially at this current generation of phone. Can I still be doing anything wrong ?

There's a different version of the PC Suite on the Sony Ericsson website to what came on my CD. I'm going to download it now, it might fix the problem for me. Dunno about you though; I have 1.20.224 on my computer, 1.20.237 is on the website. |

No, unfortunately I can't blame the software revision - I'm using the latest 1.20.237 from the SonyEricsson site. It was cleanly installed on my office machine (to be sure I hadn't messed up with old drivers on my home PC)
so, it's not that I'm afraid.

Have similar probs wiv my k800i. Doesn't happen all the time tho. Have found it works best if you DON'T select phone or file mode. It does seem to re-find phone better that way. Never had problems wiv k750 like this does. May be that i upgraded from old sony pc software that helps, or it may just depend on how planets are aligned, weather conditions in korea, or even the tooth fairy. |

Hey I'm having difficulty connecting the k800 phone to my PC. When i plug the usb in to the phone it is recognised intially but when I select the transfer file option it disconnects. Anyone know how to resolve? |

Sounds like it may be a USB driver issue. Try updating your USB chipset drivers. There may be compatability issues between the phone and the chipset. Happens far too frequently for my liking. |

Great point Stu| thanks for the idea. I'm sure I haven't updated the mobo drivers for over half a year.. I'll give that a bash next time I'm in the office
(and no, I can't use the phone from my home PC - SE software clashes with my 3G PCMCIA mobile connection; must be seeing the sim as another phone or something)
Oh and no, Angellus - I tried not selecting phone mode, but unfotunately - same scenario |
