I heard that 3G can have speeds of up to 384kbps... How do I achieve this?

With my current 3G phone I only get GPRS-ish speeds... like 3kb/s.

Are you in G3 coverage? I made speed test few minutes ago an I can reach 330 kbs (or 41 kB/s) on download and about 70 kbs (or 8 kB/s) on upload.

SingTel in Singapore.

I tried downloading something in 3G through the ISP portal and it went 13kB/s... then i tried using 2G and the speed moves about 10kB every 2 seconds..

Didn't try much though as GPRS is fairly expensive here.

The 3kb/s I mentioned are from overseas site.

13kByte/s must be UMTS. GPRS can be a max of 76kBit/s so about 7 or 8kByte/s.
Your net UMTS speed depends on how many other users are on the base station and how many time-slots your provider reserves for data access.
I get 35-40kByte/s regularly here in Switzerland, if reception is good. More you cannot expect, but that's quite reasonable. About 5 years ago that was my max. DSL internet speed!

Good to hear then! Thanks all!

BTW 2.5G seems to be able to do video streaming as well, eh?

Yes - with further reduced quality. If this is really good enough depends on your needs ...
