o2/ three just called me, (contract renewal) |

Right I had a contract with o2 for an 18month deal from september last year.. Today I was called by 'sarah' from o2, and she said that my renewal was coming up, I said yes, and she went through some new deals, she offered my something like £17 a month for first 6months then £35 after, (i never like those kind of deals, just because.) I asked about a new phone for the renewal, then they offered the k610i, i asked about the k810 which i wanted adn that wasn't available apparently, then she started talkin about o2 and three being linked, and moving me over to three(+new sim), so i could do video calling, and they'd keep my number, now as soon as they said this I got worried, since I've not been researching phones for 6months and hadn't heard of 02 and three being linked.. even though she said they were. also to renew/swap this contract she wanted credit card numbers and such, now I didn't want to give this so I said call back later. I went on the o2 site and says nothing about three and o2. So was just askin you guys what you know about this? It sounds like a scam to me.
Also this is the uk three and o2 if that helps.. Thanks for your replys. |

O2 and 3 are not linked. It was probably a third party company and not O2 direct. If you want to upgrade then phone O2 on the number on your bill. |

well for a start an 18 month contract from last september doesn't take you to now, so theres the first question,
2ndly, O2 don't need to merge with 3 to do video calling because I've got sent an O2 3G sim card.
O2 do provide 3's 2g coverage...

When can you upgrade through a 18 month contract? At the end of the 18 months or at 12 months?

You can upgrade your 18 month contract after 18 months not 12. Also 3 and o2 are definitely not linked. It was an independent retailer or 3 themselves ringing you up and trying to get you to take out a new contract with them. If you wish to upgrade your mobile phone once the 18 months are over i suggest you visit your nearest o2 store or dial 08702410202. Hope that helps |

this sounds very dodgy!
o2 do provide 3's 2g coverage but for an o2 person to actively try and persuade you to go to another network is unheard of and wouldnt ever happen.
o2 also have their own 3g network now anyway so there'd be no need for you to move to do video calls etc.
i personally would never deal with someone who called me whoever they said they were, i always phone them so i know their genuine. |

3 doesn't have its own 3G network, they're infact linked with Orange, T-Mobile and O2, they use the other network's 3G service, hence 3's reception is much better than the others individually...
Cheers

u could always keep your old number when u upgrade. This is definitely someone try to con u to switch to 3. I would suggest u to report that to o2 and 3. |

Don't do it!
Wait until your contract is nearly up and then you ring them.
With the weight of an 18 month contract behind you will get a real good deal if you stay with O2 and threaten to leave them.
You should be able to get something like 400 mins 250 texts for £20 / month at the most.
Mind you, my mate just moved over from O2 to Orange and got 500 mins, 500 txts, free broadband and free evening and weekend landline calls all for £30 /month. I was shocked.

Nearing the end of my contract I used to always get these third party companies ringing my up, really started pissing me of because I was abroad at the time and there calls were costing me a fortune, it was averaging one call every day!
Never accept a deal when someone calls you, always call them, (well it’s the same for most things too, banks, emails…etc).

Thanks for the response guys! I thought it odd, especially when the contract wasn't due for renewal, How do you think they got my number? They didn't even withold theirs when they called which i thought strange too being a call centre, number is: 01792882591, if anyone gets called by it! |

often when you take out a contract theres a box you need to tick to stop your number being given out to thrid partys. Very easy to miss, sneaky buggers!

......So......Wheres your proof.........you can't just make that statement without backing it.
I seen various things about it, and even been told by O2 when themselves and 3, when having 3G problems.
Cheers

3 use o2 for their 2g services (they are moving to orange soon). they have their own masts for 3g services. |
