As an avid private pilot who has had an interest in flying since I took my first Qantas 707 flight when aged 2, and who has nearly 500 hours flying logged including multi engine, night, instrument, aerobatics etc etc this impresses me no end. I enjoy some good time on Microsoft flight simulator but if I had one of these to play with you wouldn't see more for days!
In 1998 I began the design and constuction of my 747-400 simulator.
The approximate size of the simulator is 13ft wide x 11ft long and 9ft high.
It will include every switch and panel in the 747-400.
The Simulator has been built to accept full motion and visuals at a later date.
The main software running the simulator is Precision Simulator by Aerowinx and Hardy Heinlin.
The simulator is based in Sydney, Australia.

the story continues...
Sydney morning herald
Sydneysider Matthew Sheil has built what could easily be one of the most elaborate big boy's toys in the world, and his efforts have earned him a Guinness world record.
For most, a joystick and Microsoft's Flight Simulator PC software is sufficient, but, over the past 10 years, Sheil has built what Guinness describes as the "world's most expensive home flight simulator".
Thanks to 45 different software programs running on 14 different computers, the simulator allows Sheil to fly to and from 27,000 different airports around the world with breathtaking realism.

please don't tell me it works in real time? IE. If you want to fly from London to New York do you have to sit in front of your PC for 7 hours?

no, surely not. There must be some sort of accelerator/repositioning function like MS flight sim has
I'm off to Sydney in 6 weeks, might have to see if I can go check this out!

And then you could virtually fly back again!
I am waiting for the extended version which can take 200 passengers virtually from anywhere to anywhere without going anywhere. That would be a great simulation, sitting down on a plane that doesnt go anywhere for 18 hours!

Mighty impressive piece of kit there. You could show off to your mates with this for sure.
