Trade W810i for W900i |

@boba
But you asked "do you need UMTS?", implying that it was an extra burden or something else to worry about when in reality, it is nothing more than fast GPRS - just like EDGE.
If you were pondering over whether to get a W810i, would it make any difference to you if it had EDGE or not - its no extra cost so why should it be an issue?
You just think the W900i is too Sony

Keep in mind that W810 is to be cared for a lot, its quite sensitive. |

@goledn then u got me wrong... i just asked, if umts is a must or not. to mention edge wasnt even in my mind, he has w810, so probably he recognized it already, that it does support edge. imo its useless to go for a umts fone, if u dont wanna make any video calls or watch tv, listen to radio etc

But thats exactly what I am saying. Take away the video-calling and UMTS and EDGE are basically the same. So when you say its useless going for a UMTS phone, its just like saying its useless going for a EDGE phone.
Also, just done a quick check on eBay and :
A boxed W810i, BIN is going for from £150 - £205.
A boxed W900i, BIN is going for £200 - £325.
I reckon you could get either for much cheaper but thats what the going prices are for both right now.
Considering the W900i is quite a bit older than the W810i, the former is holding its price probably as good as any other phone out there.
IMO, if you CAN trade your W810i for a W900i then I would - if just for an investment.
I'm holding on to mine until a higher-end cybershot handset comes along- one with better Video recording.

@QVGA How come you say that the W810i needs care as it's delicate? I would think a swivelling thing with a cinema size screen would be more delicate. Is there something I don't know about my W810?

It is. I've used both. Because W900 is massive, its durable. I used a W810 personally, and it felt very light and plasticky. Just didnt feel like I was holding something tough. But then again, thats a personal opinion. |

Just because it weighs less doesn't make it more delicate. Wouldn't the swivel of the W900 wear out after sometime.

I had a S700i for over two years (its gone missing recently ) and there was absolutely no problems with that at all and I have never heard of any. If you were careless enough to sit on it when the phone was 'open' then that might affect the alignment but thats all.

Why?
Why is it useless to go for a UMTS handset if you don't make video calls or watch TV?

well, as u wrote, edge offers fast data transfer. so why to make umts fones, if i cannot have the whole fun with it? i make many video calls for example, so devices like m6 or e60 seems a bit pointless for me... but its just my opinion

But there are 3G phones out there that don't have video-calling.
It just so happens that those pushing 3G thought videocalllng would be a really big thing when it isn't. Its just a little extra.
So just because you don't videocall or watch TV on your UMTS phone, doesn't make it useless.
Otherwise it would only be as good as EDGE - and EDGE is not useless - is it?
The extra speed comes in handy when downloading or streaming video. But I wouldn't call it useless.
We have had these EDGE v 3G discussions before and if people didn't want faster and faster data transfer then we would all still be stuck with GPRS and there would be no EDGE.
