I think we all know Sony digital still and video cams use the Carl Ziess Vario Tessar/Sonnar lens, and they're one of the best lens in the business. Yet I fail to understand why SE phones dont have it, and Nokia phones have it. Surely having a CZ lens would improve on the already excellent cam on the K800, and the added branding would help in sales aswell. |

true, these are some bad ass lenses...
german quality!
Echte deutsche Wertarbeit
but you know, on the other hand, if you really want very nice pictures buy a real cam with a good lens, because thats what a camera is all about, these are only phones and how much do you expect from a phone, I mean they cant build everything in it can they ?!
thats how I would see it |

Maybe they should start adding phone functionality to digital cameras then?

Ok I have a SE K800i and played with the Nokia Equiv N73.
from my own experience I would still choose the K800 over the N73 for the picture quality.
I know that Carl Zeiss makes fantastic lens, but in all honestly, The phone doesnt live up to the reputation of the Lens, which is a shame.
The equipment is only as good as its made and it seems to be waisted on this phone.
Sony Still have the right to use the Carl Zeiss on its normal cameras, (Which it already does) but for mobile phones Nokia purchased the right. of the name Carl Zeiss.
However If i know Sony, they will have something up there selve like they will use a Zeiss Lens in there new phones! This will solve the problem in calling it a Carl Zeiss lens.
Sony also have a brand name like Cyber Shot which most people know as Sony Cameras. Nokia has to relly on a 3rd party name.

Hehe, good point, but lets keep things separated. A fone is to make calls mainly, a cam is shooting pix

In most phones, it does seem that the limiting factor is rarely (if ever?) the lens. surely the CCD or whatever sensing devices they're using are the weak points, with a general lack of ability to pick out fine details, cope with low light or deal with high contrasts in images?

a lens is onething, to be honest nokia's CZ phone fails to impress me. its not really worth an extra penny.
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA |

I would have thought they would use Minolta lens;s as Sony bought Minolta.
