I use a chat application everyday but im having alot of trouble staying logged on compared to my K750, so I think its a 3G thing, is there a way to use only gprs for applications but 3g for downloads? |

this is becoming a popular question!
settings, connectivity, mobile networks, GSM/3G networks, GSM Only
you can only either have 3g on or off, you cant have it set per application

Argh!! But then that would mean my video calls wont come through!!
But thanks Ill see how it works, I always thought that when 3g is lost gprs is automatically on.... doesnt look like!!
@ Mass I just noticed something....
Connectivity-data comunication-sms access ....
The packet switched option would mean gprs right?? meaning send sms's over gprs making it cheaper??? Am I right?
Anyone try this? |

So... you want to use the features of a 3G network, but don't want to use a 3G network to do so? |

@786KBR I know this is a bit off topic, but is the K800i out in S.A. already?
Also, approxamitely, how many KB's does your MXIT use?
Thanks

When you send sms over gprs you still pay the same because the provider counts your messages on its gateway.

In a related question...
How do I get my K800 to actually use 3G?
I'm on O2-UK and although the phone is set-up to use GSM & 3G, I've never seen it connect to the 3G network.
Is O2 just shite, or is there something else I need to do?
I've travelled around a bit (big towns & cities) but still nothing.
I'm using my existing SIM, but I've got an O2 '3G' sim card, which I've never activated, as Carphone Whorehouse told me it makes no difference. Could that be it?

Hi Jools,
Yes, In order to get 3G Coverage AT ALL, you need your 3G SIM...I think that the one you are using now is the standard 2G ones, like the ones you get for free online or buy in the shops, am I correct? The 2G works on GSM, but the 3G works on both....So you can use it in a 3G/GSM phone and still get coverage
Hope this helps mate

EDIT: CPW are wrong

Jools you getting the red square 3g signal icon?? That means you in a 3g network zone...
Not sure bout all that 2g and 3g sims... you just need a 32k sim and everything works fine... well here it does!! |

Cheers both!
I'll give O2 a call tonight and get the 3G SIM card activated.
I had a feeling CPW were telling me porkies... I couldn't see the point in getting a 3G SIM with my phone if I didn't actually need it.

When 3G Is activated you'll get a small icon next to the signal-strength....like a blue box with ice cream
