HBH-IV835 multiple pairing |

I just bought one of these, partly on the strength of its ability to pair with multiple devices. I want to use it with both my phone and my computer. However, I can't seem to make this happen. When paired with one device, the other does not find it. Anyone know how this should work?
Any input greatly appreciated! |

@701 If its not at the same time, then how is it multiple pairing?

This is from the Q&A on sonyericsson.com:
Is it possible to use the Bluetooth Headset with several phones?
You can pair the Bluetooth Headset with more than one phone, but you can connect and use the headset with only one phone at a time.
Surely this suggests that it supports multiple pairing. However, I have not been able to achieve this.
Has anyone achieved multiple pairing with any other Sony Ericsson headset? And if so, what was the procedure?
Thanks! |

Doesn't that just mean you can switch to another phone when you're not using the first one? I think they're just talking about switching between phones without having to re-enter the pin

Well, let me put it this way. Right now, the headset is paired with my phone. If I want to use it to make a Skype call from my computer, I have to reset the headset (deleting the current pairing) and then initiate a new pairing with the computer. And I will need to enter the passkey in order to do this as not all devices support automatic pairing.
If I want to use the headset with my phone again, I have to reset it once again - even though the pairing is saved on my phone it will not find the headset if it's paired with another device.
Going back to the Q&A statement:
Is it possible to use the Bluetooth Headset with several phones?
You can pair the Bluetooth Headset with more than one phone, but you can connect and use the headset with only one phone at a time.
Surely this must mean that you can pair it with several phones at once (but only actually talk on one phone at a time). If not, then it's an incredibly misleading statement.
Does anyone have personal experience of pairing any bluetooth headset with more than one device at a time?

exaclty the question i asked but have not received response yet and here is the essentially what i asked:
I recently bought an hbh-610a to use with skype on my computer and my mobile phone. Each time i want to use it with one of these different devices i need to repair and put in the passkey - frustrating and basically not that useful as if you are paired to skype and your phone rings you cant use the headset. NOW HERE IS THE THING - i am a layman and thus didnt know this is a big deal...before my hbh610 i had an akono hbh-660 which did exactly what i am suggesting above...WHICHEVER device i used would automatically route to my headset, no need to re-pair the device, no need to put in the passkey. Once it was paired to both the headset would work with skype or my mobile whenever i used them interchangeably. i found this to be a powerful, practical and superb application of a bluetooth headset. I am thus extremely disappointed not to be able to do this with my 610 and wondered if it was something i was doing incorrectly or something i was missing or if some feature of the hbh660 allowed this while newer generations do not???! |

I just purchased an HBH-IV835 and initially it seemed like a great headset. Then when I tried to pair it with my two phones (I've got one for work), no luck. As others report, the last phone paired works fine but there seems to be no way to get the first phone to connect once the second phone is paired.
Now the question of whether anyone has gotten any headset to pair with multiple phones... Yes, I have. My previous headset was a Plantronics 640 which does pair to at least two phones and behaves as I would expect. Once paired with both phones, if I receive a call on either phone, I just tap the button on the headset and it picks up. I never tested or encountered the situation where both phones are ringing so I can't be sure. Probably just a race condition for which ever phone connects first.
I tried calling them for support and was told that they only officially support Sony-Ericson phones and unless I can't get it to work with two sony-ericson phones, then they won't even acknowledge the problem. So much for the Sony name. Quote from the crappy guide, "The Bluetooth Headset HBH-IV835 can be connected to any device with Bluetooth wireless technology that supports the handsfree or headset profile." That seems like a pertty certain statement of support and along with the already quoted FAQ, this seems like a clear cut case of false advertizing. Where in any of this does it say "only with sony-ericson phones"... I'm going to submit a review on every site selling this product warning people away. I'd encourage everyone who is dissatisfied with their purchase to do the same.
Now I have to see if I can return it.

I think the paragraph in the user's manual is very clear: you can connect it to many devices but not at the same time. What's so hard to understand? And if you don't agree, do you think something will change?! Go on with your lives now, ok?

I will make this short and sweet so that some here in this thread can get it in their heads.
Q: Can this headset pair with multiple phones/devices at the same time.
A: NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That should clear things up.
Look on the website people. It is not that friggin hard. If it could multiple pair, it would say so on the box just like the HBH-DS970, or the Plantronics 640.

Hi. Just joined.
My question is this: Is the IV835 compatible with the SE P990i?
If NOT, is there a firmware upgrade to get around this incompatibility?
Thanks.

If it is BT then it should be compatible but you may miss some functionality. However the best thing to do would be to check the SE site and see.

I would have no problems with Sony if they stated clearly that this headset could not pair with multiple phones. YOU should read their website. It clearly states that it can pair with multiple phones. Even their tech support says it should work as I described. With regard to reading the box, that was not possible as I bought it online based on what I thought to be credible information from Sony's own website. I looked for it locally and could not find it so I did my research online at the Sony website. As far as I'm concerned, they should not put on their website that it can pair to multiple devices, which based on your supposition that it's simply not supported is an outright lie.
No, I don't expect they'll do a thing. That's my gripe. All I can do is try to post accurate information where people are buying this so they don't run into the same problems. If you don't care about pairing with multiple devices then why are you bothering to read this thread. It seems to me every person who wants muti-device pairing is dissatisfied with their purchase which means people are being mislead. I'll pose the question, has anyone gotten this headset to pair with multiple Sony phones as their tech support claims is supported?
