hi i recently purchased nokia 6708 and a 4gb sd card from topram...
when i use this memory card in my mobile its showing negative memory of around 3gb ( -3gb)...... and i cannot install any programs on this memory card...
i copied a few files like songs to the memory card using card reader and when i put this back in my mobile the music player is able to detect it and songs work.....
i heard that this has something to do with cluster size.... for nokia they need a 16Kb space allocation....
can some one tell me how i can format the memory card to get it into a fat format and 16kb space allocation....
is it possible to partition sd card using windows XP....

when you right click a drive and select format, you see a selection box with the options fat and fat32, with 32 as default. Select fat and proceed with the formatting.
Then copy everything back to the sd.
Sd partitioning? Never tried it |

You could try to format the card using your phone. I don't know how to do it on your phone, just search through the menus and search for format memory card |

if you select fat, the allocation size will change to 16k.
To format from phone, open the "memory" application present under tools and format from there |

Hi the suggestion of formatting the card in the phone should of done the trick and created the correct folders on the card as well as the correct configuration. Now i am not 100% sure but i think even on the newer Nokia's i have an N73 max card size is only 2gig that is supported and this may be what is causing your problem as the phone just doesn't see all the card. The only other thing i can suggest is join Club Nokia which is free and then you can get free support from them and i am sure they will have the answer for you.

oh...i think the size limit for fat16 is 2gb. So unless you partition it to 2gb each, it wont let the fat cluster size to be 16k.
Btw how is a hard disk partitioned? Can the same method be used for a sd?
And most importantly, can the partition be undone? In case the phone wont read a partitioned card, or reads only 1 partition? |
