"also an new tip.se readies new line of multimedia smartphones that will be announced in sep-oct.they will all use the clie brand name and not vaio as it was originally thought.the sure thing is that they will all have 320×480 screen resolution"
hmmm...interesting...
the link is here:

At the moment though, it's just Sony branding overkill. and Cybershot should be enough. Handy Cam should be intergrated with the Cybershot range, and Clie, no-one really knows it anyway. It makes Sony Ericsson look far too Sony, especially now with the very -like Z610 clamshell.

I think Clie is ideal for lower end non-touchscreen smartphones.
Whether people like it or not, Sony is part of Sony Ericsson - I seem to remember hearing that Sony stopped making the Clie
The S700i was successful and that was designed and manufactured by Sony.

But I think that using Sony branding for just about every area of SE's porfolio is just overkill. It does undermine Ericsson a bit. Some people (albeit, ignorant people) just think that Sony Ericsson is a Sony thing, with an extra name added to the side (to keep it simply).

I understand completely the issue you are raising, however whether or not is overshadowed by too many 'Sonyisms' appearing may not be as important from a business perspective.
Its a joint venture and both Sony and will benefit from it - regardless of how Sony the handsets look.
If all handsets bore Sony characteristics and the company as a whole profitted, then how is being damaged? IMO as long as the handsets bear the name then whats the problem.

I guess that the brands aren't really hurting Sony Ericsson's image at a superficial level, but tell this to boba It's more damaging to as a business and it's integrity as an independent and strong one.
It could be said that Sony's just taken over too much control, and now, with the branding, it can lead to even more 'market segmentation' headaches from SE.
What's the point of using Clie though? It's not really that well known, and wouldn't change much IMO. What's wrong with a normal SE smartphone, like the M600?

@bobafett I know how dear is to your heart.
Well I happen to think that Sony is the one being 'raped' more than
Like it or not recent success has come on the backs of both the Cybershot and brand. If Clie makes an appearance and that proves to be another hit, then will be laughing all the way to the bank too.
Whats the big deal?

I think that a CLIE set of phones would be very cool. I used to own a sony CLIE PEG TH55 and it was amazing. I have never liked the design of the P series and a CLIE design (IMO) would look pretty cool. |

But what about 's intergrity as a company which doesn't get used and pushed around? It isn't good for their reputation.
