Being a longtime Nokia user I recently have been researching the amazing power of the Sony ericsson. I noticed that their phones have everything I could ever want in a cell phone and I had to have one. Being a Highschooler a brand spanking new K790i is quite the Walletbuster for me but alas, my Generation Y yern for technology overcame and I ordered one off ebay. It has now arived and is charging as I write this. I do have some questions for you vets though.

1) Will my phone work with my carrier T-Mobile? I noticed that the K790i is a GSM 900/1800/1900 while the US K790a is GSM 850/1800/1900. Will this difference make a diffeence?

2) Should I have bought a K800? I read all this Jazz about G3 and EDGE and I get the concept but I still dont know what the deal is with them and If G3 is on my carier. I know they have EDGE but G3 is better. Did I make a mistake in buying the K790i?

3) Whats this talk about these phones dieing? Anything I should watch for?

Thanks for any help I can get. I hope I can become a great new edition to the Esato Community.

I'm pretty sure it will work But don't take my word for it, I would recommend waiting for someone else to reply...

EDGE is great! If you like the look and features of the phone then you're okay...you will (probably) never find a phone with every single top-of-the-range feature...

Sometimes, you just have to go with your instincts, I've always been contemplating about such issues in the past, but now, if I just can't wait any longer, hopefully when my new K800i comes, it'll be fine It's not a major issue, I don't think too many people have had dieing phones, and even if it did, I'm sure they are covered by the warranty....If you have other bugs and glitches with you K790i, just wait for a F/W upgrade

Hope this helped you and was what you expected ...Enjoy your NEW

@zeks: AFAIK the K790a will be a Cingular exclusive when it finally hits the US later this year.

T-mobile is mostly 1900mhz so the k790i will be fine. AFAIK, T-mobile only uses 850mhz for roaming (when no t-mobile signal is available). If you travel a lot within the US, it would be better to have the K790a. If you travel more internationally then it would be better to get the K790i like you did.

The United States 3G service is on a different frequency than what the K800i. So, all the 3G/UMTS features would be useless. I don't even think T-mobile has deployed UMTS anyway.

When I was in high school, I would have had to work for an entire month to buy this phone + phone service.

I wasn't saying people don't have to work anymore. I was actually just wondering whether or not I would work for a month for a phone. There's a huge difference between having to work for two days and having to work for 20 days to make the same purchase!

did you buy the phone already? I think you should be better with the k790a if you can wait until it is realeased. or you can get the k790i if you just can't wait. some areas of the USA use 850 so it will be sacrificed if you get the 790i. that's the one I got for my country since it only uses 1800/1900 and I'm loving the phone. it's a really sweet phone.
