Instant success for Sony Ericsson K800i
The Swedish manufacturer of carrying cases for portable electronics, Krusell, has released their "Top 10"-list for July 2006. The list is based upon the number of pieces of model specific mobile and smart phone cases that have been ordered from Krusell during July 2006.
Krusell's list is unique due to the fact that it reflects the sales of phones on six continents and in more than 50 countries around the globe.
(-) Sony Ericsson K790i/K800i
(1) Sony Ericsson W810i
(3) Sony Ericsson K750i/D750i/W800i
(7) PalmOne Treo 600/650/700
(5) Nokia N70
(2) Motorola RaZr V3/ V3i /V3c
(-) Nokia 5140/5140i
(6) Nokia 6280/6282
(10) Qtek S200/I-mate Jamin
(4) Nokia 6230/6230i
( ) = last month's position.
"Sony Ericsson K790i/K800i enters this month's list directly on the top spot followed by previous number ones Sony Ericsson W810i and Sony Ericsson K750i/D750i/W800i. -
As predicted earlier, the Cyber-shot phone with 3.2 Megapixel camera and 3G proves to be an instant sales success," comments Ulf Sandberg, Managing Director at Krusell International . "Sony Ericsson K790i/K800i will certainly dominate this list for the coming months."
Krusell has also announced an exclusive distribution agreement with J.S. Equipments from Mumbai, India. J.S. Equipment will distribute Krusell cases throughout India to both IT and other retail stores.
"India is the second fastest growing major economy in the world. With almost 70 million mobile phones being in use today, India is a very attractive market for Krusell", comments Ulf Sandberg, Managing Director at Krusell International AB. Recent deregulation of the telecommunications market will dramatically accelerate the growth of this industry. Hence India represents one of Krusell's most significant future key markets.

This seems over the top.
What the heck does the sales of leather case has anything to do with phone sales?
Have you ever thought, maybe SE is at top in this list because SE phone is fragile and made of lousy quality material that people needs to buy leather case to protect it. |

On the other hand it could also mean that a lot of people have bought it and hence the large number of sales of covers for it? |

Seems like the Nokia 5140 seems to be 'fragile' and 'made of lousy material' as well than, seeing as it is in seventh place. But wait, remember that the 5140 is meant to be the rugged phone. Not to mention that the V3 was also up there in first place for a while before this.
Well on another note, it seems that SE has done it again! First with the K750/W800, then with the W810 and now the K800! Great stuff.

or MAYBE just MAYBE users like to take care of theyr mobile phones .... they care if it gets damaged ... not something that can be said about the nokia users ... they brake them and get another or maybe some nokia users don't even bother buying a case ....

black devil
The fact the Palm Treo is at no.4 position already indicate that it is a farce if anyone tries to link this list to the sales ranking of phone.
Yeah, nokia phones are solid. Well, at least no one ever hear of broken joysticks!!!.

@mib1800.
If the industry did not take this as a reliable indicator, do you really believe they would put their journalistic reputations on the line by circulating rubbish around the web?
Sounds like sour grapes to me mib
CPW also has the same three models in the top 5 best sellers.
Now what do you make of that?

I dont think krussel would make such association between sales of their case to sales ranking of individual phone model. Only over-zealous journalist would use this further their agenda.
Defending this list reflect the sales quantum of individual phones sounds like twisted logic to me, goldenface.

Carphonewarehouse must sell 1000's of handsets a day.
Is it just a coincidence that both lists have 3 handsets in the top five? |

Although even i think its pointless to judge mobile phone sales based upon sales of covers, but still if 's popularity is in doubt, here is another figure which tells us that k800i is the no.1 handset in the market at the moment.

@deepsme.
Thanks More evidence show 3 phones in the top 5.
It would seem the Krusell list wasn't that far out after all mib1800

It just dont tally. SE has only 6% of market share but 3 of the top 10 selling phones are SE.
We know from Nokia press release that N70 is selling at about 1.5million per month. So the combine top 3 SE phones must be selling at a combined total of at least 4.5million per month. That is 13.5million for a quarter. Tell me how many phones SE sold for last quarter??
btw: If we take figure of 4.5m for the top 3 SE phones (i.e. 1.5m per piece) the list would also be meaningless - because the SE won the first 3 places by mere difference of a handful of phones (out of millions)

@mib1800.
It has been widely reported - and not just on here - that are selling over 1million phones a month alone.
I would take that figure to include mainly the the W800 and W810.
Add to that the K800i, a popular phone by all accounts, and the K750i /D750 hybrid and the recently launched K610, thats 4 phones in the top ten.
Thats how it tallies.
