Apparantly Terrorists planned to use iPods to blow up airplanes headed to the US from the UK. The plotters were to carry a British version of Gatorade mix it with a gel like substance to make an explosive and then trigger it using an iPod or mobile phone.

all you need is a source of energy (preferably electric) to set off any explosive. you could have used anything from a cell phone to a watch for the purpose |

hilarious ax!
Quite true though, although the attacks were thwarted, the inconvenience and delays caused mean they've had a kind of 'victory'.
I'm going away at the end of September and I'm not looking forward to putting things like my phone and a pair of binoculars (for birdwatching and seawatching, you dirty gits! ) into my main baggage to be kicked about by baggage handlers and get broken, or in the case of the bins possibly get knocked out of collimation (alignment leaving a double picture)

a simple digital watch is enough to trigger something.
oyea does this mean you can't go on a plain when you've got gel in your hair?

CNN and several other media outlets reported the devices as being only some sort of .mp3 player not an iPod.

Steve Jobs probably got on the phone (iPod phone?) and threatened a lawsuit.

A passenger was not allowed to board a plane from Fresno to (San Francisco) on (August 10) because his shoe insole was supposedly made of \"gel\".

Even then they might ask you to wash out your hair gel!
I think these are bush/blair scare tactics yet again to keep poeples minds controled and also to take minds off the conflicts in Isreal/lebanon Iraq ect so \"US\" the public can feel secure in the sense that the current wars are justified.
