Why no last name in phone book |

I know they dropped the first name/last name with i upgrade but why?
It just doesn't seem natural to look for somebody’s name by their first name.

Well, i for one have all by first name, but that's a matter of taste.
Just rename them in outlook as "Jones, Mike" Instead of "Mike, Jones"
No biggie |

But doesn't that mean that caller ID shows the names backwards?
On my T39 I optioned the names as last name in the phone book but it correctly displayed a person's name correctly when caller ID was displayed. |

Well unless you know 800 peeps it will take like 30 minutes tops.. and what's thirty minutes in the grand scheme of life ? |

My point about Caller ID still stands.
And anyway why should a T68 owner have to go to all that trouble just because some software designer didn't think things through.
The whole point of modern technology is that it makes you life easier not harder.

Just export your contact list from Outlook to a .csv file. Open the new file with Excel, and exchange the columns you want (i.e. first name with last name). Beware of not swapping the first row (which says the contents of the column) or it won't work.
Then, just save the file and import again in Outlook. Syncronize with XTND Connect, and voilà!
Perhaps I've been too fast, if anyone needs further explanations, just drop a reply...

But it still (again) means your Caller ID will display the name backwards! |

I don’t really understand what’s your problem…???
In fact, when my T68m was upgraded to a T68m(i), I just had to change the “field mapping” into XTNDConnect… and all my contact in the T68 are with “Last name” first, and the caller ID is right too…

Exactly.
Simple really: I want to able to view my phone book by looking up people's surname like the whole world does, for instance, in a phone directory but apparantly Ericcson have taken away the option with the upgrade. Why?
It was on my T39 and I found it handy.
I object that I have to dig out my computer and adapt my phone book over an inane decision.
And anyway I’m an Apple Mac man and I use a Palm to send over my names to the phone.
