A few questions regarding AT&T locked phones. |

Howdy all,
Just got a supposedly unlocked phone from Ebay.
When putting my swedish SIM in i realized that it was locked although the seller promised me that it was unlocked.
Well, no biggie i guess, but i hate to have to pay 400 SKR ( 40 bucks) to get it unlocked here in sweden.
Is it possible to get a unlock code from AT&T if i tell them that the phone is sold to sweden ?
What are your experiences with this ? |

Good luck getting AT&T to give you the unlock code. I spent two hours with customer service, and to be honest they're pretty much clueless. They're mostly a TDMA carrier - their GSM network is fairly new. If you get to someone who knows what you're talking about they'll likely tell you that they don't even have the codes. |

Just got an e-mail from them...
Thank you for contacting AT&T Wireless regarding used equipment from AT&T Wireless. Equipment is designed by the manufactures to be used on specific wireless networks. The same model is used by the different carriers but is modified to work with one specific carrier. This is true with all service providers from the United States. In this case the AT&T Wireless information is programmed into the equipment. We do not have the ability to "unlock" the phone for use on any other providers network.
If you would like to have service on this equipment you will need to start service with AT&T Wireless. There are a couple of options for activating service. The first would be to call our representatives at 1-800-IMAGINE. A representative will be able to assist you with your activation over the telephone. You may also wish to visit one of our sales and service centers in your area to complete your activation. You may use the link below to determine the location nearest you.
I asked them when they plan on starting a GSM service in SWEDEN ?
I clearly stated in my mail that i live in sweden and yet the resopnd like i live in the US.. it's so sad...
Not to mention that the statements in the e-mail is totaly wrong and bogus. |

That is absolutely ridiculous! They even imply that they know you aren't in the US by talking about carriers "in the US". They are making an embarrasment out of themsleves with letters like that. I've had a similar experience when I spoke to Cingular about their ability to give me my unlock code. They claimed they didn't have it, yet they admitted they would give it to another carrier if I demanded to switch to a different network. When will the US carriers finally grow up??

unlock it through ericsclient, someone described how to do it, and you can even flash it yourself, i guess you got some kind of generic response, probably you are not the only one to contact them with this issue, so they already have a template to send, i mean there is nothing personal in that letter, no refferal to the overseas and they called your phone used equipment, (i am assuming you got it new on ebay right?) so there is no point to talk to them, just hack the heck out of it yourself, best way i guess, to save money.
