I am on Orange Contract and use a SEK800i.
I have been doing a bit of research into their MMS & Data costs and find there is a bit of an information gap.
Single Picture up to 50kb = 25p
Single Picture over 50kb = 50p
Multiple Pictures = 50p
My phone can support MMS of 300kb, but what do Orange support?
Also, do I pay for data upload/download costs in addition to the MMS cost?
Secondly, emails are charged at usual data rates, but what is their maximum size/maximum attachment size?
As you may have gathered, I am looking for the most cost efficient way to get media to and from my phone. Surely Orange have the loopholes closed? |

As far as i am aware, most operators have a 100kb limit on MMS. But again this depends from operator to operator. Might have to ring them up and specifically ask if there are any limitations on the size of MMS attachments. My operator here in India does allow 100kb plus MMs.

For your Response to Orange
Orange support 300kb and only charge you 50p.
O2 also supports 300kb and use 4 sms out of your sms bundle or charge you 25p out of your bundle cost.
The above are for Contract, However PAYG still can send and recevie 300kb cost are the same.

I worked out that in order to be cheaper per KB than email (to send AND recieve) the MMS would have to exceed 250kb. This is assuming the £1/MB cost of Orange World 4.
Using Pay As You Use data @ £4/MB 65kb is the crossover point. |

In other words:
If you send LESS than 8Large or 16Small MMS per month (and do nothing else consuming data) then sticking to PAYU (pay as you use) data is the best.
For all other purposes, buying 4MB for £4 is the more versatile option which allows you to send more & larger pictures. All of these calculations assume you care about the other person's data costs. If you don't...then email & the Orange World 4 pack crush the opposition  |
