Hi!

Just got a nice HPM-70 for my W800 cause the original was very destroyed... now I realized that this new one doesn't have the neck support (I'm glad... was very uncofortable), but what I noticed is that the left earbud cable comes from "below" instead of from "above", putting tension and again maybe breaking in some months... ripping the cable rubber apart.

Here is a picture (sorry, paint-made) with the black showing how it is and the red how I think it should be.

Thanks, let me know

I think your handsfree is the way it should be. The black drawing seems correct to me

Mine is like that too. It's odd, but it's supposed to be like that.

Perhaps it's because you're supposed to put the cable between the earbuds behind your neck. If you also have the sound cable from the phone on your back, it would make sense.

It is a flaw of Sony made earphones. My Ex-71 have the same issue.

its not a flaw they are suppose to be like that for ergonomics,. they are made to be fed round the back of your head.
Look at he pic..

No, it is a flaw...

both headphone wires should come out of the top of the plastic "splitter".

I wear my long loop round the back of my neck as well (which I think is a decent design) but the shape of the split annoys me.

Well I guess that is a matter of taste. I personally view it as a design flaw for two reasons:

1) It places additional pressure on the wire by having it bend back round
2) It causes the plastic splitter to hang horizontally rather than vertically

the splitter shouldn't hang at all, did you not see my lovely pictue.... The splitter rests horizontall on the back of your neck, not pressure is put on any of the wires cos it natraully flows that way

Yeah but the cord to the left ear is much shorter than the one in the picture. I, like many other people have the right ear cable pretty tight, so the splitter is lower than it should be. It could be solved easily by having a moveable splitter! Damn these people. Having said that, it doesn't keep me awake at night.

mate, good you aren't gonna lose sleep over it, since it's not a problem.

I've used mine for many months without any sign of it breaking. I use mine without feeding the right bud around the back of my head - the splitter is almost completely reversed, but it's still going strong

it's the black-one the correct one. If you can make a neck support it will be ok .. if not , be carefull .

What I meant is exactly what lukealexander said... it's not that I was wearing from the FRONT; I use it from behind my neck, but it puts pression in the left-earbud-cable...

In any case; any clues why my original HPM from the w800 came with the neck support and this new one not? Don't they make them like those anymore? What's up?

Also, I got the black ones, since they were the only ones in the store (they didn't had the silver)... it doesn't match the phone, right? Should I trash them and find some grey ones? In any case, I think the cable and fastport connector look better than the silver one, specially matching the ICE-25 case...

Thanks.

interesting, sorry I misunderstood you. I tried looping the right earbud around the back, but when I turn to the left the right ear bud pulls out! When I place the whole cable behind me (down my back) the left earbud pulls out.

So I guess either configuration is out for me. I use the headset while riding, and need to be able to turn any direction without the headset pulling out. Also, I need the mike clipped to my lapel so I can answer calls without stopping.

Standard config works for me (cable down front, both earbuds fed from the front).
