I tend to keep my phones in cases so I can clip them to my belt, and that protects them very well I guess.
The exception at the moment is the M600 which sits nicely on its own in my top shirt pocket so has no chance of being scratched
I do examine my phnoes very well when I sell them so i can accurately describe their condition and I rarely have found a scratch on the screen
it really comes down to how you treat the phones I suppose... my brother just throws them around the table or the car dash and has no concerns for how they end up (I cringe a bit actually!)

My experience with some phone cases in the past has been dissapointing so i never use them at all now mainly because i think cases spoil the overall design of the handset and also covers its nice features,(Its bit like driving a nice car with a cover over it) although protected from scratches and scuffs aswell as dust ect..I have experienced Scuff marks on the screen after keeping the phone inside over long periods..so now i just stick with screen protectors.
