I was asked by a friend to set up his phone for him to access the net. His is the same LG as mine except that his had been branded for T mobile. The embedded settings in the phone made it virtually impossible to set it to access V mobile Nigeria. I am wondering why branded phones for providers abroad should be sold here. Or it is a case of "dumping" and ignorance by the importers? Is there a way to de brand these phones?

You should be able to input your own settings, I've done that many a time with a branded phone. You may not be able to delete the T-Mobile settings, but you should be able to input your own and set them as default.

@nanakay: The reason you find branded phones in places like Nigeria where T-Mobile/Orange/Vodafone don't have a presence is simple...these phones were most probably stolen in European countries and dumped places like Nigeria.

brix25, sure, some of these branded phones are stolen Those phones I am talking about are sold complete with all accessories by companies like LG, etc. We know the stolen ones. These are handsets which are sold without chargers by street vendors who know next to nothing about phones. Lord have mercy! Thanks, buddy.
