What do you think of this.

I got a sim free Sony Ericsson K800i and o2 have sent me a USIM which I am using.

I seem to have a problem texting more than a 1 page text, anything more than a 1 page text gives the message "sending failed" and the text is saved to the outbox for retrying. Sometimes the person I am sending the text to would actually get the text though including the o2 customer service bloke who I was talking to about this probelm.

I done a test to see if its the K800i firmware or the USIM thats the problem, heres what I did....

I put my USIM inside a K750i and found that I didnt get this problem, long texts were sending fine. I then put my USIM back in my K800i and switched off the 3G mode in the settings so its using GSM only and not GSM and 3G. I now find with the 3G turned off in my K800i the text probelm to have gone and I can send long texts fine on my K800i.

What does this problem sound like to you? something wrong with o2's 3G service or K800i firmware?

Just really thinking who I should contact to try and sort this problem out all together so I can use the 3G service.

Ahh I see. I think i'll phone them back up tommorrow and ask about this as its a right pain. I notice the 3G coverage isnt too great either when I am in an area that is suposed to have decent 3G coverage.

I cant find that post but if you or anyone sees it please post the link to it as I would be interested in reading it.

I have a K800 which was originally 02 branded, but isn't anymore after I used wotanserver. I have an 02 3G SIM and have no problems sending SMS messages over 1 page (well over in most cases). I do however generally use Floats Mobile Agent for sending texts, although I'm sure I've sent a few large ones from the handset itself.

Ok, noticed something odd now. Since I switched to GSM only in the settings and could send texts more than a page long I have now switched on to use GSM and 3G and can still text messages more than a page long....

The new problem is that the 3G signal showed for a few seconds but now wont show. I'm just outside London so it cant be a coverage problem surely as thats just rediculous

You're going to love this I emailed O2 (Should anyone bother) and they replyed back saying that I should return my K800i to the retailer as it sounds faulty. I then replyed by asking if there were any known problems because through here I found out that some people had a texting issue that apparently O2 know about and this is the replys I got.

"Thank you for contacting O2 Customer Service.

I am sorry for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

You cannot send long text messages because you are using the 3G network. You can only make calls using the 3G network. You need to use the GSM network to send text messages. Please make the necessary changes in the settings of your Sony Ericsson K800i so that you can send messages through the GSM network without switching off the 3G network.

Please refer to the Sony Ericsson K800i User guide to make the necessary changes in the settings.

There were problems in May 2006 where O2 customers were not able to receive text messages from other networks. This was because the network the messages were coming from had not loaded new O2 prefixes onto their database.

Since you are having problem sending text messages, this issue does not involve your mobile phone.

For further details about O2, please visit our online Help Centre at:

Important - Please make sure that every time you contact us you include the following information: Your Date of Birth, Postcode and Mobile Number.

Kind regards,

What is he actually saying? That I cant text more than a 1 page text becuase its a 3G service????

Well I now find I can text more than a 1 page text but the 3G signal is dropping and coming back and dropping again and so on.

What a complete joke....

Surely this cant be right. O2 Customer Service say that every time I want to send a text more than one page long I have to switch off GSM & 3G and have it set on GSM????????????? Is this the same for other people on O2 and other 3G networks?

This is what O2 said in exact words - I have trouble beleaving them.

"Thank you for contacting O2 Customer Service.

I am sorry, but you will need to change your settings to the GSM settings on your Sony Ericsson K800i every time you want to send a text message that has a content of more than one page.

This is a phone feature and not a network feature. To find out more about how to set up your Sony Ericsson K800i for text messaging service, you will need to refer to your phone User guide. You can also contact your Sony Ericsson Customer Support on 0870 523 7237 for more help. "
